so I have been on dialysis for about 8 months now, about 6 with my fistula. I like to exercise  a bit and am wanting to do more things that I did before, I am still in pretty good shape so I know if I really want to I could do lots of things but some are not smart. I want to know what people think of some of these things and what do you do that your not sure if you should but just got to anyway, what are you scared of happening and is there anything you can do to help it to not happen.
I like to skateboard and am scared of braking my fistula arm so I skate like a puss now
I like to surf but am not sure about the wetsuit
I want to go back to gymnastics but am not sure about the pressure on my wrist
I love snowboarding and feel pretty ok with that one but it only snows part of the year
just good old hard work but I don't really know how much lifting is ok I am told all sorts of things

I'm I just asking too much at this point?

That might be a question for your vascular surgeon.  Wet suit may be too tight around your arm, I'm not sure.    ???

my surgeon tells me that most things are ok, just about every thing. I'm not so sure. the big question is what is too tight? and too much to lift? has any one done anything that they know caused problems. I have had much better success talking to patents than doctors.... I'm also not a "standard dialysis patent" I have some function and actually (lucky for me but I still feel bad when it happens) will come in at or under dry weight most of the time so it's hard for the doctors to keep up with what's going on with me.... I'll be a lot better off braking a leg or my right arm just not the fistula please

you  can't  do  anything  that  has  a  chance  of  causing  distress  to  your  fistula  arm

may  be  a  sleeveless  wetsuit  might  be  the  go  ,might  be  too  tight  still?

you  need  to  find  exercise  that  will  not  cause  you  to  be  in  hospital  any  more  than  you  need  or  want  to.

I was told not to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds with my arm that has the fistula.

While I don't play contact sports anymore, I do workout with weights for 90 minutes, 3 x week.
I use light to moderate lb. weights.

My fistula is in my left lower forearm area.

A gallon of water in the UK weighs exactly 10lb.

A gallon of water in the US weighs 8.35lb. See? You get screwed by the water utilities as well as the pharmaceutical industry.  :rofl;

about the only thing i really worry about is what would happen if i broke the arm that has the fistula. my guess is it would be back to a cathater.  i'm with rerun, your surgeon is the authority. i say keep active, have fun, don't worry too much.
