Title: Tattoos
Post by: Sara on July 18, 2006, 04:00:09 PM
Do you have any?  Do you want any?  What do you think about them?  Feel free to post pics!   ;D

(And yes, this is a spin-off of Hyperlite's post in case you were wondering.)

I have 3, intend to get more.  Just got my latest one a few weeks ago.  I personally don't like the gruesome or cartoonish ones, but the right tat can be hot!

The top one needs to be touched up since it's about 6 yrs old.  The bottom one is my newest so it's very bright right now.

Tattoos are actually how I met my hubby. He gave me all of the ones that I have.

Metallica Ninja Star on right ankle

Hummingbirds with flowers on inside of lower half of left leg

Parrot on front of left leg

Butterfly with Tiger face inside on outside of left leg

Cougar sitting on a branch on on outside of left leg

Tinkerbell on my back

Unicorn on right shoulder

Butterfly on chest

Butterfly and fairy dust on right hand

Unfortunately since he had lost his fingers on his right hand (and now entire hand) he couldn't tattoo anymore or I would have more. We just sold the tattoo equipment to my son in law, so now I just have to decide what I want!

I have gotten 2, one on each ankle, and i thought i was going to pass out when i got the first one but all of it was mainly built up anxiety.  It really doesnt hurt, kinda like taking a needle and scraping it against your skin,  not too painful but you know it's there :)  I know it also depends on where you get it too,  if you get it in an area where there is not alot of muscle or meat then i have heard it hurts more.  (like on top of the foot or near your ankle bone)

I would really like to get a tattoo, but I haven't found anything that I can say I want on me for forever.  I've been through several phases of likes and dislike in my life and a few things have always carried on during each.  I have hunted the tattoo shops and on-line for ideas and designs but I haven't found just the right one.  I think I may have to just design it myself.  At least I know no one else will have the same tattoo.  My wife has 3 and she has designed 2 out of the 3 of them.

Well Hawkeye, i was going to suggest putting:  Goofynina on your arm but i dont think your wife would like that ;)  lol,  But, why dont you have your wife's name?  I have my hubby's name, that way he will always be with me.  I know, kinda corny, but i am corny like that  ::)

Your right my wife would kill me and come after you next.  Besides , I'm not a name person.  I think it's kinda stupid myself.  That's my opinion and I'm sure it was the right thing for you otherwise you wouldn't have done it, it's just not for me.  I'll either find something I really like, or like I said design it myself.

Well, if and when you decide to do it, please dont forget to share it will all of us, i'd love to see what you have created.  Hubby has been talking about getting his Raider Shield so i think that would be our next project.  In search of the best Raider Shield... The quest begins, lol

He can have a tattoo, he just has to wait until he is 18+ before.  He already has his ears pierced and is gauging one of them to a 0 size.  He wants a 00, but that is a bit much in my opinion so he is stuck where he is until he is 18 too.  I understand freedom of expresion, and the want to find yourself so I don't mind him experimenting.  I just want him to grow up a little more before he does something perminant.  He has a lot of maturing to do before that point.

No I wouldn't let my son get a 'tat until he is an adult. But I would get DFL then if he decided when he is older he could get DFL as well. I think it's sad when I see kids that are like 15 with a tat.  :-\

I dont consider it "being disfigured"  if done right, i think it can be beautiful body art.  I am proud of my tattoo's and i think they are pretty cool and far as it being a fad, nah, i think it is just something someone does to change the way they feel about themselves and depending on what it is they get tattooed on them, it shows their personalities...that is just my opinion  ::)

So, Epoman, what does DFL stand for?  Dudes For Life?

And as for tattoos:  for my 50th birthday, I got myself a delicate sort of bracelet of flowers that goes around my left wrist, in gentle blue, pink, & yellow colors, with entertwining leaves; they look like the flowers my grandmother grew in her back yard (she raised me, and we were very close).  The background story is that at the age of 15, I read a book on Winston Churchill's mother, Jenny Jerome, who was a Virginia lady and quite the renegade; it said she had "a bracelet tattooed around her wrist", but provided no further details.  I desperately wanted one ever since, but waited until age 50, because then most of the people in my family who would have been truly offended by it were either dead or blind!  Then this year, I found out that Jenny Jerome's bracelet tattoo was of a snake!  If I had known that detail at the beginning, I probably would just have been turned off, so I guess it all worked out fine!

Around here, we call tats at that spot a "tramp stamp".

As for the "fad" going away - I'm pretty sure we're stuck with it.  But you would think the kids trying to look "cool" would have moved on to something else when the suburban housewives started getting them.

I'm like the official tattoo canvas here I think 11 in all. It is a form of expression not a fad. I have a memorial for my Dad which includes his portrait on my lower left leg. I wanted to have my Mothers portrait added but I don't know if I can, due to the meds and diabetes.  I don't heal good anymore.

I had a friend who got married to a woman named Lori.  He got her name tattooed on his arm with hearts and little emblems.  After they got divorced he moved to Florida.  He got letters added to to tattoo so now instead of Lori it says Florida.

That turned out pretty cool but usually my own rule is no names unless they are my kids names. All my tattoos mean something and I didn't get them without a lot of thought first.

Ah, I would like at least one tattoo to cover up the holes that are left in my chest from my catheter...yuck!  i can no longer show off the sisters in low cut shirts...the two catheter holes look like i have two additional nipples on my right breast.

i just can't figure out what kind of tattoo i want to cover the unsightlies. someone suggested a cartoon figure with two big brown eyes... *argh!* yeah...that'll be really sexy, hehehe.

if you know what kind of holes i'm talking about, maybe you can suggest an appropriate tattoo.

I got a few tats while I was in the navy. I went through a phase with dragons. and Since I got tats of it, it will be a lifelong phase.

I got my first tat on my left arm when I was 18, I got the rest when I joined the navy. I have 5 tattoo's I got 2 in Japan. The dragon in the pic is my favorite tattoo, and i got done in Japan in the Japanese style with the ink done with a pistol and mortar, along with the tap technique.

I have a gargoyle on my upper right back, and an angel and devil mirror image on my right arm. On my chest I have a picture of the laughing buddha (also done in Japan). The first tat I got was a color dragon. I only got one color tattoo, and i think thats it for me, because I don't like color anymore. The black and skin color is the most detailed and easier to see.

These pics were taken when I was in the navy. about 3 years ago. It hasnt faded much since then, I just dont take pictures with my shirt off very much anymore.

There's been a lot of press lately about an 80 year old woman who had "do not resuscitate" tattooed on her chest. This is a good idea, but it's too vague, since DNR only applies if a person's heart stops or they stop breathing. To eliminate any ambiguity, the following additional tattoos should also be considered:

"no artificial hydration or nutrition"

"no cardioversion for rapid atrial fibrillation"

"no intubation and mechanical ventilation for potentially reversible conditions"

"no pressors if hypotensive"

"no painful, high risk surgical procedures with a very low likelihood of success"

"...and no dialysis under any circumstances"

Seems like if you survive all that tattooing, you're pretty healthy!

Tattoo a permanent mark of intent

Published: 31st August 2005

A GREAT-GRANDAD has ensured he will never be without his organ donor card – by having it tattooed on his shoulder.

Raymond Sulton, of Kent Avenue, Cheadle Hulme, wanted to “avoid any confusion” in the event of his death so paid £30 to go under the needle at Tony’s Tattoos, Great Underbank.

As a nurse at Cheadle Royal Hospital for 28 years he saw how vital transplants can be and decided to take action when his friend had to undergo a life-saving kidney operation.

Retired Raymond 66, said: “I’ve seen a lot of things that make you realise that families - just like mine - can need help and organ donation can save lives.

“It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while to avoid any confusion if anything were to happen to me and I would urge other people to do the same.

“To have your intentions written on your body takes the pressure off loved ones having to make a hard decision if you die.”

Raymond has had the words “organ donor”, his blood group, O positive, and the date he got the tattoo etched on his shoulder.

He has a holiday home in France and his biggest fear was dying over there and his wishes not being understood.

In June the Stockport Express and Times highlighted a critical shortage of transplant organs in the borough.

Forty-seven people were waiting for operations but only 11 organs had been donated in the last five years, with kidneys particularly scarce.

And Raymond, who has two grandchildren and a great grandchild, is hoping he can draw more attention to this problem.

He said: “I talked it over with my daughter and she said go for it as people should be aware of the need.

“My grandchildren think it is weird me getting a tattoo and my great grandchild is too young to say anything. It didn’t hurt, I just heard a buzzing noise - I really like it.”

Faye Pye, from the Stockport branch of transplant charity New Start, said: “What Raymond has done is terrific and shows real commitment to the cause.

“Although it is a highly unusual step there is a serious message behind it, not enough attention is given to the length of the transplant waiting list.”

Found on the internet... the story behind the tattoo Vandie posted...

"Our mission is to celebrate tattooing as a modern art form which incorporates art, fashion, style, and pop culture."
more tattoos at http://www.inkedblog.com/archives/stories/

I got this tattoo in 2004, two years ago, and seven or eight months after I was diagnosed with kidney disease.

It was such a surprise, becoming so sick. I have always been so healthy! I had just opened a store, I was married, it felt like the beginning of everything good when the bottom dropped out.

This tattoo is anatomically correct, your veins and your arteries run along your spine right there. In place of my kidneys, however, I have broken hearts.

I suppose I went through all of the other emotions as well- anger, shock, denial, but after I worked through a lot of these feelings, the one I was left with was brokenheartedness.

I had always been a carefree person. I really prided myself on that, in fact. I was able to take life lightly and I had always seen this as an intrinsic part of who I was. Part of this confidence was created by my faith in my body and my spirit of optimism.

In some ways, that carefree person will never exist again. Now, I need to always be careful, to think before I act, to limit myself. It has gotten easier, but at first I felt like I was losing track of who I was.

I went to go visit my family in San Antonio. While I was there, I saw a dear friend of mine, Terry Brown. I had known him since I was about nineteen and he was a tattoo artist. The fact that a friend did this tattoo means a lot to me.

Since then, I got a kidney transplant from my brother. Everything is going much better but he did have one request- do not do anything that could possibly strain my health. Because of this request, this tattoo is the last I will ever receive."

It's a great way to make things fun with children in hopes they grow up believing in organ donations.

Only one tattoo here, a butterfly. And no more for me that was painful enough. Got it on my b-day a couple of years ago, got a piercing on my next b-day, surgery on my next b-day  and now the next one is coming. Think I'll just keep it relaxed and pain free.

I got one on my right upper chest, name of one of my ex husbands,  but now I got to remove or I am thinking if i could fade or get other one top of it,  perhaps I could get something pretty with colors that would cover that name is just 6 letters and in cursive style.  I just need to find a good tatto artist to do it,  oh it did hurt! and i remember the man asking me "are you sure you want a name?" hahah i bet he gets lot of people going there to fade old tattos with ex lovers names ...  ;D

Tattoo on a living kidney donor named Jay. The logo was designed by Carol A. Darling, Graphic Designer, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Her hope is that it helps to increase awareness for the ultimate gift of life, organ donation. The green ribbon stands for organ donation. The red streaks represent a heart. This logo is available to download from the website of the Dept of HHS. www.organdonor.gov  - It is copyright-free and available for anyone to use.

I haven't got any photos, and I don't own a camera, but when I was 17 I got a large Indian tattooed on my upper leg. It is a good piece of work, and I still like it.

I also have a small tribal piece (the Sepultura "S" for those who have seen it) on my shoulder blade, which was done when I was about 18.

I'll try to get a photo of my Indian to post here at some stage in the near future.

I've got a small backpiece (not a "tramp stamp") in black and gray (cholo style) that reads "regrets are worthless" - I pretty much hate it now, ironically. I also have traditional wild irish roses on either hip, and "RVA" on my inner wrist for Richmond, VA. When I first moved, I never thought i'd come back. Jokes on me, right? I'll be going in the shop soon for a green candy heart on my chest that reads "taken" = and when Wade is able to get tattooed again he's getting the same, but in pink, and on his arm.

As for him ... crap! So many!

Right arm: Our lady of guadalupe, old school gorilla head, new school panther, devil head, half sleeve of skulls/tiger, anchor with banner that reads "tomorrow", and a poison girl.
Chest: Swallows on either shoulder, chese piece of a sacred heart that reads "for love", and a rib panel of garbage because he let about 5 people tattoo him.
Legs: pink bird, skull with dagger, buddah hand holding a dart, another skull, and another dagger.
Back: well ... its never going to get finished ... but heres a link of the outline on him (pre-dialysis, obvs): http://www.absolutearttattoo.net/?goto=davidboisineau&img=27

I like the idea of the green ribbon or a blue one for kidney disease awareness. And a dancing banana (I love that icon).  I would like to have one on my ankle. I don't know if it is a good idea for transplnt recipients. Anyone know???

Thanks for sharing your tattoos.  :waving;

Romona, just make sure you use a reputable, qualified artist with a clean, sterile studio. Needles should be sterile and/or disposable.

Personally, I would recommend not getting a tattoo immediately after transplant as there might be some infection risk, due to the fact that they do bleed a little. But there are obviously people here who have had tattoos prior to transplant (like me) and others who have had theirs done post-transplant, and it nobody here has had any negative anecdotal evidence to share so far. So I don't see why a transplant recipient can't have a tattoo, once stabilised. I can understand why you would ask though - that was a question I had in my mind, too, as I've always wanted to get more tatts. And now I think I've decided I probably will.

After I found out my hubby was going to be fine after this last go around at the beginning of the year, my daughter who has a huge butterfly on her lower back, took me to get a tattoo! My very first. It's a butterfly in blues with a beautiful crucifix in the center. Sounds weird but was done amazingly well. It's on my front left, not too far down from my collarbone. I can see it all the time and it reminds me of where we've been and where we're going. I'll get a picture of it and post it at some point.

I'm too chicken to get done what I'd like to get.  On my sides I'd like to get the devil and portraits of evil on my right and on my left a portrait of Jesus and all that is good and a scale across my abdomen weighing out the good and bad in my life. I don't think they make scales big enough to go across my tummy.  :lol;

I got a tattoo of a butterfly on the back of my right hip.  Although most would disagree and say that it's on my ass.....  However, I'd like to go back and get two small kidneys placed in the middle of my back where my native kidneys used to be before they were removed.  Then I won't be lying when I say that I actually have kidneys!!!!  :-)

PLEASE be careful if you decide to get tattooed over your kidneys. I know, i know, it sounds totally crazy. However, Wade ended up bad and in the hospital after getting his backpiece worked on for 2 weeks prior, and another friend of ours ended up in the hospital for acute kidney failure last spring after getting over his kidneys tattooed. Wades doctor is currently very interested in this, and looking to see if theres any connections - he apparently has heard of a few other cases. I guess when the kidneys are beat up, the pressure from the tattoo or something in the ink makes them worse? Who knows, but its just a heads up!

By the way, Wade and I are totally getting this tattoo when he gets his kidney:

In addition to wade's gory calfpiece of decapitated and bloody sheep and sickles in a pasture with zombie nurses in honor of Goodpastures syndrome....

I have two X's tattooed on my upper left shoulder. Remember when you were introduced to arithmatic? - meant subtract, + meant add, and X meant multiply or "times". My X's stand for two times, cancer twice, first testicular, now prostate.

When I went in to see my internist the first time after getting the tattoo he asked me if they had been put on by a radiologist as some kind of CT scan marker.

There's room for more X's, but I sure as hell don't want to put any more there./bobt

I know I said I waited to get mine until I was older and had the common sense to know what I was getting myself into, but lately, I've been starting to wish I hadn't gotten the one on my shoulder. At 30, I now feel a little too old to be sporting a tattoo when I wear tank tops! If I could afford to have it removed, I would. I'd still keep the one that's a memorial to my Dad since no one can see that one when I have clothes on.

I really can relate to what okarol posted so I never thought I'd say this, but if I were younger I would get a small flower tatoo on my ankle.  I don't want anything too extreme, maybe just a little something like this guy has. I would skip the red hair though, it's a little too much.

On the original topic. I have two tattoos, and am really wanting more! Just above my right shoulder blade I have two beautiful blue-tone calla lilies, and slightly above and to the left of my tail-bone I have a mustang. As in the "Mustang" (Fords beauty. I love them so much!) I'd wanted that since I was 14 years old and finally did it in March of 2007 when I was visiting my dad in Wyoming. Scared the crap out of him because he though my mom was going to hunt him down for "letting me" get it. I was 20 years old at the time, soon to be 21...
The calla lilies represent life and growth, that there is always a chance for renewal. The pony reminds me to live how I want, to go fast and feel free.

My neph once told me if I have a dentist appt. or (jokingly) plan on getting a tattoo let him know so he can give me some antibiotics ahead of time...

So, depending on how decent your doc/charge nurse is (do you think they would tell you no?) that would determine who I told/asked ahead of time.

If not I would just get one and go in and show it off the next time I went...that way if any extra care was needed they would know I had it and couldn't do anything about it.

I would say as long as you aren't getting a full back tattoo, and you're keeping it small...GO FOR IT!!!

I got my original tat when I was 16 it was a butterfly just over my left breast.  The guy didn't have all his colors yet so I only got the outline and like 2 colors.  quite a few years later when I was in my 30's I was helping manage some apartment buildings which contained a few store fronts.  One of them happened to be a kick ass tat shop that needed some typing done and since I type for a living I said ok and they redid my butterfly for me they added all the colors and some fancy ends on the wings and antenae and so forth.  the only thing original anymore is the yellow and the basic shape of the body.  I really love it and I get to chose whether anyone sees it or not.  I would really love to have an anklet done and I know it's gonna hurt like hades but I want it. and hopefully if I can donate to Dave then I could have something done to reflect that.

Cool tat!  I want to get a tat in memory of life when I get a transplant.  Jason thinks that idea is stupid, but thinks it would be neat to have a "treasure map" squiggly line all over then an X marks the spot over my new kidney, "since I'm going to have a huge scar anyway".  Funny? Yes.  Give transplant neph heart attack when he would see it?  Most likely.  So, how 'bout no on that.  8)

When Dave had his cath put in on the 11th the surgeon told me to draw a line at his belt line to they wouldn't put it there so it wouldn't rub.  so i drew the line and a smiley face and my daughter wrote "Hey girl" on him too!!!  I wanted to put "OVER HERE" or something like that.

YOu have to have fun and laugh because if you don't you'll cry and that is no fun cause your eyes get all puffy and your nose runs!!!! so better to laugh!

Well, I finally got my new tattoo started last night, and after much consideration, decided I need not make a special phone call to discuss it with my neph. I chose a VERY clean and professional studio and I am keeping it very clean and using proper anti-bacterial products. I see my neph in a couple of weeks and will most certainly tell him about it at that point.

The tattoo I am getting is of a pin up girl - a glamorous one, rather than a "sexy" one - this one here: http://www.thepinupfiles.com/images/KBS-Armstrong-Adorable-NEW-LG.jpg but I am also putting a bull terrier sitting by her chair, as anyone who knows me by now can tell, my bullies are a very important part of my life.

But by gosh, it's an awful lot more painful that I remember.... !!

To answer all the questions:

No, it's not Betty Paige. It's nobody famous.

It is a painting from the 1930s by an artist named Rolf Armstrong. Presumably he had a model for it, but I do not know any details about her.

Yes, it is very detailed. I chose an artist who is brilliant at fine detail and portraits - he's not cheap, but it's worth paying the extra for.

I visited a doctor on the weekend (got scratched by a dog and needed antibiotics) and while I was there I asked him about the tattooing. He believes there is absolutely no reason why I cannot get tattoos, as long as it is a reputable studio and I keep it clean. He said "you have still got to live, right?!".

I like that doctor.

Single use needles, although not required by Australian law (I suppose because needles can be sterilised) are something to look out for. The studio I go to uses single-use needles. Obviously surgical gloves are also used.

There is no excuse for a professional studio to be passing on diseases like hep.

This is an interesting one from a tattoo artist:
Artist: Orrin Hurley - (email)
Placement: Back

Comments: A great story.. My friend Nick gave his kidney to his cousin when she was in the hospital awaiting a donor. So we did this over where his missing kidney was. One of my favorites.. This tattoo took 3 hours. I used a 15 mag for the whole thing.. then at the end i decided it needed a few crisp lines at the bottom and in the veins.. so i set up a 5 liner and tightened up the piece.

hi just to let you know that I have some Tatts.... now let me see ...on my right arm (near my shoulder) I have a sign for long life and happiness, on my left arm ( near my shoulder) I have a circle of friends logo, on my right breast jumping down to protect my heart is a tiger ..yes I am born in the year of the tiger. ON my lower spine I have eternal friend written in cantonese. ON my shoulder blade (right one) I have Elma Fudd cause my mothers name was Elma and so is my middle name. ON my belly right near my belly button I have a purple sea horse...cause i was facinated by the fact that it is the male that gives birth not the female...why can't our men give birth...lol then I have a dragonfly on a fence on my right lower leg... again it is purple .... then my latest one is a MEDICAL ALERT on my left wrist... this has a list of my known allergies... plus four dragonflies for my four children and you guessed it they are different shades of purple. Keep smiling Love to all Purple ...... :cheer:

I'm very impressed with this studio that I am attending. Very professional, very sterile etc. When this is finished, I might look into a transplant memorial tattoo! (After all, it will be my two-year transplant anniversary in a few weeks.)

I thought years ago that tattoos were just a fad. If I saw a really pretty girl with tattoos I'd ask "What are you going to tell your grandchildren when they ask about your tatoos?" That was 30 years ago, and it's only got worse. I think that if you have tattoos, your children will get tattoos. I realize that it's a question of choice. but i think that the best excuse for having a tatoo i ever heard was this guy said "I got a tattoo of a fish on my penis for women that can't eat meat on Friday" :2thumbsup;

The pain isn't an issue with me. I kinda weird that way like a little pain.  But the money part is the issue. With detail and color mine is gonna set me back somewhere from 175 to 200 dollars. That is a lot for a tattoo. I need to find someone who will do it for me for cheaper.

If you are worried about the pain, consider emla gel/cream. It is thoroughly fantastic and worth the high price tage (availabe from pharmacies).

When I was younger I did not require any topical anaesthetic, but now I am feeling the pain (nay - agony!). So with this piece, for my thrid sitting at least, I have started to use this. And will continue to do so until it is finished. I got 2.5 hours of work done the other day, using this cream.
Title: Re: Tattoos
Post by: Chris on May 11, 2009, 05:30:35 AM
I tried that cream for dialysis, but it didn't help so I just ended up using nothing for the needle insertion. I just got use to it like insulin injections I did at the time till I got a pump. Never got use to that needle poke though for the pump in the abdomen area.

As for a tattoo, I have no idea where to begin to start such as size, location, how to get a good artist, not to mention the cost.
Could always go the cheap route and get "I Love (write name here in pen)".   :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; That way if you change girlfriend or boyfriend, just wash name away with soap and water and write in new name.  :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;

A couple hundred is a good price for a tatt in this area.  This is one of those cases where cheaper is not always better.  I've got just under $300 in mine..two sittings...second one for things I decided to add after the fact.

My artist is known for his fine detail, and his general hourly rate is $180 (Australian). It's worth it, for his skill and the professionalism/cleanliness of the studio. As I am getting a large piece, I am being charged $150 an hour. By the time it's finished it will probably have been a good 10+ hours of work.

I know I'm a little late to join in on this but I have seven tattoos currently... I would like to get more but I'm not sure about getting ink done in my current state of health. I have one on my ring finger of two hearts that is very hard to get a decent picture of but here are my others...

I have a big scar on my belly from my transplant so long ago...I thought a big zipper tattoo would be funny!
I do have Kokopelli on my rear deltoid - a representation of my former self!
Hubby has camera at work, so I'll have to post a pic another time!

Love all these tattoos!!!  I'm ready to start getting ink myself...but i made the mistake of mentioning it at dialysis tonight.  The techs FREAKED out!!!!  Do I really have anything to be worried about?  I mean, c'mon, I already have kidney disease and all...;-)  I will post pics when I get mine started!!

Thanks!
-Mike

The main reason they Freaked out is that there is a chance of infection. Beings your immune system is low your body can't fight it off as well. There may be other reasons I just don't know them.

Artist: Jesse Rix - http://www.secretlaketattoo.com/tattoos/tattoos_26561.html
Placement: Arm
Comments: This customer wanted this tattoo to commemorate the day he donated a kidney to his brother. Their last name is cleveland so he wanted the tag to say genuine Cleveland parts.

:clap;  Love tattoos and totally addicted to them.  Had one done the other day, it will be my ninth!  I have:
1. Koi Fish/Patience Chinese symbol on my left hip
2. Tranquilty Chinese symbol on my right hip
3. Two penguins with the Aurora Borealis on my left shoulder
4. Celtic Sun and Moon on the back of my neck.
5. My Grandfather's birth flower- an iris, and "grandfather" underneath in Hebrew
6. A tribal turtle with "wings" around it on my lower back.
7. The Breaking Benjamin song lyrics- "Dear Agony Just Let Go Of Me" over the tribal turtle (newest one)
8. A sparrow with cherry blossoms on my left wrist
9. A red rose on my right wrist.
My neighbor and friend is a tatoo artist and will be teaching me to tatoo in the near future!!  Since I haven't been working in some time and I love art, he offered to teach and possibly start a tattoo business!  I am super excited.
Oh, and I would post pics, but I still haven't figured it out yet... someone want to explain how to post??!!  LOL

Would there be any potential complications getting tattooed while being a dialysis patient above the usual tattooing intersections of pathogens and the like?

My nephrologist steered me against it five years ago and I haven't broached it again, but I'm really wanting to get my Kidney From Hell design inked on me soon.

I'd be interested in knowing the answer to that question too! DBF was thinking about one to honor his Mom

I love looking at pics of peoples tattoos.  I have three--a feather (I'm 1/4 'native american'), a greyhound with the numbers that are tattooed in my greyhounds ears underneath, and the Pi sign.  I got that one when my Dad died, he was an evolutionary psychologist and loved that symbol  :)

The docs are pretty anti-tattoo, just because of the normal risks, I think.  There's enough chance of getting hep when you are on D without adding a tat parlor into the mix.  The question becomes is the risk of messing up your health worth the ink?  Plenty of people get them - on D or with transplant, regardless of what the doc thinks!

Have you considered getting your design embroidered on a hat or silk-screened on a jean jacket?  Plenty of places do custom design work like that.
