Title: VA Kidney Support Group
Post by: Brightsky69 on December 29, 2009, 11:39:48 AM
How do you start a kidney support group?? I would love to start one here in the Tidewater Area but I have no idea how.
I have searched for a established support group but haven't found one. Any advice would be appreciated.

go to dialysis centers in your area and pass out fliers.  talk to nurses and techs in these centers to see if they could talk to people and see if there is any interest in a support group.  set a time on a sunday when people can come.  my group met once a month, on the first sunday each month.  good luck.

AAKP article: Support Group Development

A patient support group can provide and exchange information ranging from kidney disease research and new treatment options to how a person can cope with kidney disease. Individuals in support groups talk about issues they deal with on a daily basis and are provided the opportunity to discuss more in-depth, personal decisions that other members have dealt with, or might face in the future.
