I am sure this has been asked before but I would like to know how long you have been waiting for your first transplant. I have been on the list for nearly four years and beginning to get a little frustrated. But I understand that 6 years is the normal waiting period in Australia.

Murf --
We're in the US (state of North Carolina). The first time around, my husband Marvin waited on the "list" for 5 and a half years; then, he didn't even get a kidney from the list (live donor). That kidney hung in there for a little over three years. This second time around, he will have been on the list for six years this Oct. 21. He has O+ blood type (very common -- so more O+s in need) and now he has a very high PRA (98%) because of his transplant.
...and so, we wait some more... Good luck to you.

This should really be in Transplant Stories........ but I'll not move it.
I waited 9 months the first time in 1988. Boy have times changed.

I'd been told it was 4-5 years here, but I'm in Victoria. I've been waiting for nearly four years myself.
I found out today that a guy in my unit who had been on D around a year or so prior to me starting just got a transplant yesterday. They also had another one last night.
I know the waiting is so very frustrating. I feel it too. Specially when all the nurses in my unit declared that I am supposedly "next"
We have a couple of aussies on here who got transplants at between 4 and 5 years of waiting. The most recent was Wattle a couple of months ago.
I think it will be soon for you mate. Hang in there - your time will come!

I'm also O+ and was told the average wait for my blood type is 5-7 years. I was on the list May 2008 and received my transplant on March 2009. Don't loose hope because you never know. It could happen when you least expect.
