We've often talked about our age now and at the time we begain dialysis for the first time, but I'm curious as to where we are now.
I'll start it off ....
First dialysis was at 15, transplant at 16, and now 12 years later, at 28, I'm back on dialysis
-
Joe will be 37 this month. He started dialysis in January.
-
I am 38, started dialysis just after I turned 35. AAHH to be 21 again. Liz :beer1;
-
I'm 31 started dialysis when I was 25 off it until I was 29 and still going strong now on Nocturnal Dialysis.The off it bit I'm writing about and soon will be updating in my Intro...................................................
P.S. It wasn't a transplant!

WOW, I have to say I am amazed... I probably shouldn't be the internet is a young tool I guess. But I am the youngest in my unit (of course I live in Florida where the old come from all around to retire) at 37 as of July. I started dialysis when I was 26 after about 3 moths of getting sick, tired and feeling really crappy they did some blood tests and called me the next day to have 2 blood transfusions and get a cath for dialysis ASAP! I was healthy as a horse until that point in my life. I had dreams of being a pro-football player even went to college on a scholarship but it did not work out. Everyone in college was much better and bigger then me!!!
-
I started hemodialysis at age 24 and I am now 48 ... soon the be 49 in March 2007.
:beer1;
-
Started when I was 21 now I am 34. It's been a long hard road, but I am still kicking.
-
I'm 45, started dialysis in April this year.
-

Started PD back in May. What was the question again??

Hi,
I'm 26 at the moment. Soon to be 27. What happened to being 24? Started dialysis 11 years ago, but had a transplant for 10 years. Been back on dialysis since June 2005.
-
I started Haemodialysis at the age of ten, now 40 ::)
-
43 years young! Started dialysis 7 and a half years ago. Let's see, at the ripe old age of 36
-
43 years young :-X >:D
-
56 years young!!!
Started dialysis last September (will soon be my anniversary) at 55. Also discovered IHD in September just before I had my first dialysis. Got my yells of 'HELP!!' answered in those days!!
-
Just looked at the votes again, and right now it seems so perfectly balanced - the classic bell curve!
-
I started dialysis at age 24, received a transplant at 25 (lasted 17 years) back on dialysis at 44 and just turned 45 in July.
-
24 years young... I look like I am 16.. but most days feel like I am 40. Been on dialysis for 3 1/2 months. Ironically I started dialysis on 6/6/6. >:D

Man Geoff, that sounds exactly like my story. I found out when I was 26, healthy as a horse I thought. Ran about 8 miles a day, played top amateur soccer, dreamt of being a pro soccer player. Then one day I was starting out on a long drive, and my chest got really heavy, like there was a 200 pound weight on it.
I went to the emergency room, took my BP (180/120) i peed in a cup and they called me the next day and said "were seeing some kidney failure." About 2 hours after that lovely news, I left my wallet on top of my car and drove away. Bad day.
Diagnosed in September 91, on PD for 3 months, went on the TX list and got a transplant in about 1 week in Jan 92. Lasted until November 94 and started hemo then.

Cranky seniors....Don't get me started. Same here in Houston.

:thumbup; I'm 80 and just started ccpd 3 months ago. I didn't realize how fortunate I am. But after seeing how many started at such a young age I guess I'd better never complain.

I started dialysis (PD) when I was 16! Yes a youngin like Fox and Shades and Alasdair!
I had a transplant when I was 16 as well and it lasted 11 years! Now I have been back on dialysis since 2001! PD for 4 uneventful years until the very bad Peritonitis last summer .. now have been on Hemo since then and there is no Home Hemo in my city yet. I am now 32 until Nov!

Ooooh so close! ! ! ! :lol;

I am an immature 43 years old! Diagnosed with lupus at 16, kidney failure around 23, dialysis for 5 years until they ran out of spots to put shunts, and transplanted kidney from my sister in 1990. That lasted 16 years and ran out this last may due to a bad bowl of Chinese Chicken corn chowder. Went directly onto ccpd.
Going through the testing now for another transplant from my brother. Fortunately I had six siblings in which to gleen body parts!
Good to see so many people my age. Makes me really realize that I am not alone not a special patient!
-
Not on Dialysis but diagnosed FSGS May 2006. I am 44 yrs old.
Hey Sluff - always interested in hearing from someone else with FSGS. I was diagnosed with FSGS in 1990, at the age of 28. Started dialysis in April 2006. Scheduled for a transplant December 5, 2006. This year I am definitely getting the ultimate Christmas gift from my sister! :cuddle;
I am currently 43, but only days away from 44!

wow good luck! :2thumbsup; 3 by the time you are 23? I have heard as you get more and more that they last less time each time. But I guess that should be a new thread, eh? ;)
-
I've only had 2... I'm waiting on the 3rd... but yeah, the more you get, the hard it is for them to take... after my last one, they have me a drug that's supposed to kill the immune system.. forget what it's called... I think it builds back up, but with the antirjection, shouldn't attack the kidney.... didn't work for me, though.. *L*

I was diagnosed at age 23 and started dialysis at age 27. I put it off as long as possible. I dreaded the needle! After starting it, I found out it still sucks! But, you gotta do what you gotta do!

36 in two weeks. Due to start dialysis within the month. Seems like there are lots of younger people on here - but given that this is the net, not all that surprising. (Not many in the 70 and older age group who spend much time surfing, I think.)

My history with the menacing and debilitating entity known as Dialysis dates back to 1983 when I was a young and naive twelve years old. It was in this dark and glloomy hospital room just off the UCSF Pediatric Kidney Clinic. I only had two treatments before my first transplant and I remember my Mom being really disappointed because she thought I would look and feel better. The kidney was from my Mom and it lasted for 12 1/2 years.
In 1995 I had to quit my first radio job and move back home with my parents for six months while they prepared my baby sister to give me a transplant in January of 1996. That kidney failed in May of 2004 and I've been on Dialysis ever since.
So if you do the math and add up my time cumulatively, I've been on for 39 months. I work a full time job and a part time while enduring Dialysis.
Some days I think I'm amazing. Days like today, not so much.
-
A full-time job, part-time job and dialysis!
That is prettty amazing!
I'm sorry you are having a bad day!
Hope you feel better soon.
-
I was diagnosed with Lupus (SLE) at age 12, kidney failure at age 15. Had chemo and my kidneys started working again, age 18 kidnes failed again, started hemo in April 1999. Had my first transplant from my mom in Dec 1999. It lasted until April 2004, I started hemo again, then after a yr of hemo I switched to PD, and I am currently on PD waiting for a call for a transplant. Im 27, but I turn 28 this month ;D
-
This question was posed on another post, so I thought I'd :bump; and let some of our newer members take the poll.
-
I started dialysis when I was 30, now 43. No transplants or anything, just plane old hemo.
-
First time I was ever dialyzed was when I was 13. Started regular HD when I was 17. Had a transplant that lasted me for over 20 years. Back on HD again.
