I get a manicure every other week and a pedicure every month. Down here, it´s so cheap to get your nails done that you just have to do it  ;D.  It costs about US$5 for both manicure and pedicure. I never was a nail biter but they sometimes break off while I´m scrubbing the pans.

Maybe I'm just a sucker, but I do most of the salon type stuff for my wife.  I regularly give her back and foot rubs, pluck her eyebrows, and remove old polish and re-paint her toenails.  She goes to a salon to get her nails professionally done maybe every 6 months or so, but I do it the rest of the year.  Even then she doesn't get anything fancy done to them.  She is not one for waxing either though.  She says it hurts like the dickens so she just shaves.  She is always very grateful for for the fact that I am willing to do what I do.

Do you have a brother around 45 years old?

My nurse told me that the artificial nails harbor bacteria.
I've never had a manicure.  Nail biter.

It's not just artificial nails that harbor bacteria, real nails do too.

Now that is just the kind of comforting statement I need to hear. :'(

If you really get right down to it, every crack and crevice of our bodies harbor bacteria of one type or another.  That's just the way we work.  Some of it is good and others are bad and make us sick.
