I have had alot of problems with eye bleeds. My kidneys gave out and had to start dialysis. The doc does not want heprin used in dialysis machine so as not to harm my eyes. Anyone else have this problem? They use saline to water down blood so it wont clot on them.

As much trouble I have had with my eye with the many laser treatments, bleeds, and surgieries, dialysis did not cause more problems when they used heparin. The doctor may be cautious due to past troubles he has had with patients and does not want you to possibly go through the same thing. My opthalmologist and retinal specialist knew that dialysis used heparin and just where a lile more cautious when it came to surgery. Also saw them every 3 to 6 months to keep an eye out. I didn't have a major ye bleed until after my transplant and I was using les heparin then for the catheter I had for meds.

If you do not agree with your doctor, try getting a second opinion to see what they would do knowing all your medical history. I think the doctor may just be being cautious.

Good Luck

I am allergic to heparin I have hit. They use a citratesate bath and I take cumadin to keep me from clotting the machine. I have also had laser treatments and surgery on both eyes with one being partial blind...Boxman

I have to schedule my eye appointment. My eyes have gotten so terrible, even with my glasses for reading I have a hard time.

Saw my new NC Eye Surgeon Wednesday and she thinks I'll need another laser treatment in about 3 months as there is swelling again on my right eye and I feel like there are not enough lights on again.  Grrrrr
