I have written on here about a nasty virus i now know i have and how i had to call the emergency doctor out 2 days ago. Well today im no better , so called the doctor for a daytime visit again to check me out and insist they find out whats going on especially being a renal patient as well. So i was told the doctor would call around 5pm (tea time uk) only to get a call around 4.45 from the doctor. He asked me to go over everything and what was wrong and i told him i was on dialysis to which once he had heard everything said ..Well if you have been like that for a while another 18 hours isnt going to hurt you , so see a doctor tommorrow in surgery hours ..WTF ?  I told him i thought he was out of order considering i was a renal patient as well as ill. I then told him i wont hesitate tonight to call an emergency doctor out if i go worse . BUT what i didnt tell him is tommorrow morning i will be on the phone to the surgery to make a formal complaint about him , i am going to kick up such a stink about this ..so wish me luck     Luckily i dont feel any worse but i need some form of diagnosis and treatment as to why i feel so ill ..and tommorrow im going to make sure i get it ! and doctor or no doctor he is going to get a B******ing

Just be glad you don't live in the United States, where you're likely to hear from the doctor's secretary that unless you have adequate insurance or can pay $200 up front, you can NEVER see the doctor, much less have to wait just 18 hours.

Good for you Kickstart!

Let us know how it goes and make sure that you stay cool calm and collected when you complain. Give them the facts and then ask them how they would feel if it was them (or one of their relatives).

Some doctors really should be retrained (maybe as bus drivers!!)

And yes, thank God we don't have to pay for these idiots!

Luckily for me i DONT live in the US and CAN expect a doctor to come out to see me when im too ill to get to the surgery. Considering i havent had a diagnosis 18 hours is a long time to wait for someone who is already suffering from renal failure ! In fact 18 hours could mean the difference between life and death .We hear all to often of doctors that cant be bothered !

Well the doctors just been and cant figure it out , so has ordered 'blood tests' which cant be done till next week .So its going to be another week before i know whats wrong with me!

   Lets highjack the Thread:  There are two sides to that fellows.  Apparently in the U.K?/Canada? one cannot see a Doctor unless the Doctor wants to see you.  Presumably that's because seeing you or not will have little effect on his income.  That's good and bad.

In the U.S. (disclamer - that's where I'm at) if a Doctor won't see you there are dozens ready and waiting.  All you need is money.  That's good and bad.

Frankly I'd rather spend the money as opposed to 18 hours waiting to see a Doctor who prescribes a blood test that cannot be taken for one week which gives me time to update my final affairs.  That's all bad.

The latest data says less than 16% of U.S. citizens are without insurance.  That is not to say they don't have medical care.  Just that no one else will pay for a Doctors visit.  Some are young people who feel no need.  Some are just too poor but even they have access to the emergency room and by law cannot be turned away.  That of course means that the paying customers make up the difference.

The problem in the U.S. is not the availability its the out of control expense which has many roots.

In Australia you will rarely find a doctor who will even consider going to visit a patient especially where I live.  In fact, when I moved here every doctor's surgery had a "no new patient" rule so I still go to my old GP (general practitioner) who is about one hour away.  I don't know how your medical insurance works over there but if I got really sick and I was worried about it I would call an ambulance, go to the hospital, have my bloods taken and assessed and be out of there with a diagnosis in about three hours - or stay there until they could find out what was wrong with me.  I have never done that but my medical insurance would pay for it in those circumstances.

Lucinda , our system doesnt work like that , firstly we dont pay (well the rich can and go private). You cant just call an ambulance , it has to be an emergency for that. Over here our first port of call is our G.P.  if you cant attend the surgery , he is required to come out and see you on his rounds. If i went to A&E over here , i wouldnt even been seen in 3 hours , much less in and out and because it is neither an accident or an emergency i would be at the back of a very long queue to see a doctor. When you dont feel well here you call the doctor , he checks you out and either makes a diagnosis and treats you or sends you off to hospital/clinic for further investigation, if he doesnt know what it is. The fact is the doctor was in the wrong to make me wait another 18 hours to be seen , luckily for me its not one of those super bugs like MRSA ( i hope!)
