Has anyone ever tried taking this product, which is a derivative of thiamine (vitamin B1) and available without a prescription in most countries?  It is sold under the brand name of Arcalion.  The drug has many benefits and has been used to improve both physical and mental energy in patients with chronic, debilitating medical conditions, and there are positive reports of its benefits in those with diabetes and endstage renal failure.  Since it is water soluble, there is little danger of its accumulation due to limited renal clearance in patients with kidney disease.  The only problem with the drug is that it is very expensive, and a month's supply can cost around $160.

Is this similar to Benfotiamine?  I thought you posted information about the IV version.

It is chemically quite similar to benfotiamine, but differs from it in the important respect that it passes the brain-blood barrier and so has an uplifting effect on the mood and the intellect.  I should also correct my spelling, since the substance is properly called 'sulbutiamine' with a 'u' not an 'o.'
