It is bitterly cold here... now I know some of you would say that it is not cold.... well it is cold for us.

13degrees and raining. Coldest day this winter (so far) it never actually gets much colder here.

I don't know if any of you have ever heard of a singer-songwriter named Richard Marx.  I had not, I must admit.  He is from the Chicago area, and he has written many popular songs that most of you would probably know if you heard them.  He's written songs for everyone from N-Sync to Keith Urban.  He is a producer also.  He has put out a fair number of albums.

http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/5808289-421/richard-marx-pumped-up-about-pbs-special-taping-at-historic-theater.html

My husband surprised me with 2 tickets to this PBS taping because he knows I'm a Hugh Jackman fan.  I have to confess to being rather bowled over when he hosted the Oscars; I had no idea he was that talented.  Anyway, my husband remembered my drooling, and he thought I'd like to attend this concert/taping, and he was right...it was brilliant.  I happen to like "Vertical Horizon" also, and their frontman has collaborated with Marx many times, so he was there, too.  And Hugh Jackman was amazing...he just sauntered onto the stage, dressed in jeans and a denim shirt, and with that megawatt smile and Broadway voice, well, it was such fun.

Since this was a taping, there was a lot of storytelling and talk with the audience that Marx knows will be edited out, so the whole performance felt more like a casual conversation than a formal concert.  The music business does seem to be incestuous; songwriters work with so many different kinds of performers, and a lot of the stories that he and Hugh Jackman had to tell were really interesting.

Afterwards, everyone was just sort of milling around; it's a small theater in a small town, so just milling about is endemic here.  Therefore, it wasn't really hard to get a quick "hello, enjoyed the show" to the performers.  Everyone was really nice and grateful that so many had turned up; the theater is not-airconditioned and it had been the hottest day in town for decades.  When HJ said that Chicago was too hot, everyone laughed because it's not exactly Australia around here.
