I found a great site. It's a photojournalist's journey through kidney failure and transplant. He tells the story along with great pictures taken by both himself and some of his photojournalist friends. There are even pictures of the surgery and dialysis treatments. It's a beautifully done site.

This is a good link. Some of the pictures taken me back to the day's when I was in the hospital following being diagnosed with kidney failure and having dialysis in the hospital. The picture of him washing his hair in the sink is an all to familiar sight for me.

As I went through the website more, going through the transplant section, I noticed a few people looked familar without reading the paragraphs. I found out it was done at the same hospital I had mine done. Dr. Leventhal is a great guy, but Dr. Stewart (idiot didn't want anyone to have a flu shot unless you had a liver tx  ) I am glad he is no longer there. Wish I could say the same for my pancreas tx doc (moronic idiot!! with his head so far up his *&@). Just wish I had the same care from Dr. Leventhal with the crap I have gone thru there with the idiot I have been stuck with.

Here's another one - http://pancreas-kidney.com/. It's by a guy (I think) who had a kidney & pancreas transplant. He goes into tremendous detail, with day by day descriptions of everything that happened to him. It's a long read, but great info for anyone looking to have an K/P transplant.

Darn!! I was hoping there where pictures of the transplant itself. I always wanted to see the pancreas also before being transplanted into the body.

Yeah, I was disappointed about that too. I was also sad to see that he stopped updating in 2003.

I sent this site to many friends, and was surprised at the response, all positive. People who normally might not spend time reading about dialysis and transplant were transfixed. My friend Rebecca said that she thinks this would be a very good presentation to give to students (high school, premed, even school age) because it's well written, brief and the photos really move the story along.

Being a designer myself, that's why I was drawn to the site. I usually cringe when sitting down to read other sites like that.

Apparently the photojournalist, John is a member of this site from the email I received from him. I wrote to him about how well the site is without telling him I was from IHD. Guess I better watch what I say

He is one of us??  I also passed the site on to family and friends.  Everyone responds that it is so well done and easy to understand all that is going on, especially with the pictures.  It would be a great educational tool.   So, John, if you are on IHD, I hope you are reading how much we love your site.  Great story and pictures

I want to do this myself, however, I just want to make an old fashioned scrapbook.  I have taken two photos so far, so I'm way behind.  I had my sis-in-law take a picture of my brother in the hospital when he was testing for me, and last night I was filling my weekly pill-box and I was shocked at all the pills so I took a photo of that.  And I'm pre-dialysis / pre-transplant still!  I can't imagine more pills!  yuk!  My problem with photos is that I go to all my doctor appointments alone.  I hate to ask the nurse or something.  Maybe I'll try to take my sis-in-law next EPO shot visit and go from there.

By the way, I really enjoyed John's story!

I know each transplant and patient is different, but there was a pill difference for me. At first there was a lot to take, but after a bit of time, I am taking less pills than when I was on dialysis. That didn't include the insulin I was on. So be prepared you maybe taking more pills after the translant till your body settles down.

That is so true. Some are very hard on the eyes. Using light blue and a white font, who can really see that? Apparently they were not the A students in class on web design, which I am taking right now for the fun of it.

Dad and I are doing great - he is an Ironman triathlete now and I have left newspapers and started my own business. And 4 months ago I had a daughter.

I've been to that site before! I took a computer basics class several years ago (required for graduation; I could have taught the class better than the prof they had doing it!), and we had to do a PowerPoint presentation on any topic we wanted. I chose dialysis, and found this site. I wrote to John, and he gave me permission to use some of his photos. I don't know about my classmates, but I impressed the prof, because I got an A.  Thanks, John!

I had the same problem a few years ago with my professor. We also had to do the PowerPoint presentation too. I did more on my presentation than what he even went over. He asked me how did I do that . If he's the professor and he's asking me, I better be teaching the class then!
