Hello,
I just happened to stumble upon your site from a link given at another forum, and I am already glad that I did.

I am pre-dialysis and am expecting to start dialysis soon.  I was born w/reflux disease and also am a fellow ostomite.  So I have been dealing w/kidney issues all of my life and found out in 2001 that my remaining kidney is failing.  Eventhough I've had kidney problems all of my life, I didn't have a clue that my kidneys would one day fail!

I just recently started having problems w/my PTH as well as those other pesky side effects of kidney failure.  I am scared and confident at the same time.

Thank you for starting this outlet!

Wreepete, welcome to our site.  I think it is probably better to know about the probability of kidney failure before it happens.  It gives you time to adjust.  There are a lot of answers here and a lot of humor.  If we couldn't laugh at a few things, I think we would go nuts.  Enjoy reading and posting here.

Ya I was born with reflux as well and didn't realize I would be on dialysis one day neither .. but here I am on dialysis the 2nd time around after having one transplant (they never last forever unless you get one from an identical twin I hear lol).

Anyway, this is a great place where people will be completely honest!

Welcome to our site, wreepete (like your name!)  Yes, many of us are glad that we found this community when we did.  This was my major preparation for dialysis.  I had many questions answered and much usable advice given.  We now have over 6000 posts, so there is a lot to read.  The sections that will be the most helpful in preparing you will be found in FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions and General Discussion.
But don't just read, we would also like to hear from you from time to time.
Again, WELCOME!

Welcome. :)
You have come to the right place. I have found so much info, and encouragement here. My daughter was also born with reflux, and is now suffering from the consequences of being diagnosed too late. She started on PD about 6 weeks ago, and is adjusting to her new lifestyle.
Epoman has done a great job of of this site, that is now a lifeline for so many.
