Cramping Fo

Hi all. For the last two treatments I have been getting cramps in my legs and hands. I have never had a problem with cramping before, and was just wondering if this is just something that happens when you have been on dialysis for a while??

Usually cramping is caused by taking off too much fluid.  The dry weight probably needs to adjusted up.  Did you gain weight?  Exercise and put on muscle?

Low potassium or calcium balance will also cause cramping.  I wish there was a test to tell what the cause is.

there is an old post on this cramping thing, try to search. Tonic water or quinine really helps my mother on doing away with the cramps. Hang on this happens to dialysis patients, but it's something you can address. Prayers for you.

Rob's cramping used to be just his legs.  As he started his 2nd year of dialysis his cramping is now in his hands, stomach and still legs.  It's much better now that he is on NxStage, but he still gets the occasional cramp.  We always keep a can of diet gingerale around for him to sip on, it has some sodium that helps.  Of course his saline works also, but he doesn't always want all that fluid.

Most likely fluid related.

It can be you have put on too much fluid and the machine has to pull it faster than your body can give it up to get you to your dry weight, or you could well have put on some weight and thereby have a higher dry weight.

            it's  fluid,  either  to  much  coming  off  or  you've  put  on  a  bit  of  weight,put  your  weight  up  .5  see  if  the  cramps  dissappear.
