JP, that's awesome!!! And March 5th is my birthday...hopefully you'll get the gift, though! Can't wait to hear the good news!  :clap;
KT, you know you are the one who got me thinking (previous rant). Thankyou, and hopefully I will be able to do this. The PD nurse said to me, "you will probably go through this and get all set up, then be called for a transplant". Oh, that would be a gift, but , I would just like to be able to be in control of my own dialysis until the transplant happens.

So glad I could help, JP! Wouldn't it be wonderful if you got the call for the transplant as soon as you got trained? Anyway, anytime you have questions, you know where to come. Once you get trained on manuals, definately ask about the cycler (if they don't offer it) then you do most of it at night, and have your days completely free.

Good Luck Joe Paul.  I felt way way better after being able to do PD.  And, I was lucky enough to be able to get the cycler so only the evenings and nights were taken up.  Gave back a little of my life.

Keeping all fingers and toes crossed for you.

Good Luck, Joe Paul.  PD and the cycler will give you much more freedom and it is so much better than being tied to a center.  Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks again for all the replies. The way I understood the PD nurse, I would do 1 month of the manual exchanges, then after that, start on the cycler. Thats looking way ahead, still have to see what the surgeon has to say but I am hopeful it'll be OK, not long now only 10 days away  :thumbup;

Thoughts and prayers for your consult with the surgeon, and hope that it goes your way.

Best of Luck!

I really need to stop looking at this thread...people are counting down to my birthday. Ack!!!

Anyway, best of luck to you, JP. Let us know what the surgeon says. Though it's my understanding that it's the neph who decides whether you're a good candidate or not for PD...that may not be able to be determined in your case until you start doing it and see how your numbers are the first month. Hope it's all good news for you!  :2thumbsup;

Well its a go, I will have the Cath. put in on the 27th of this month - then 2 weeks after that the surgeon said I will see him again to have the stitches removed. A week after that, he said, a nurse will come by my house to do a fill and drain, and if its all good I will be starting training. KT, I know its a ways off yet, but I too hope the numbers are good enough, I really need a break from in center Hemo. Thanks again for all the well wishes  :thumbup;

 :yahoo; Joe Paul, I'm so happy to hear this! I've been thinking about you all day.  :yahoo;

As for the surgery, they use gas to inflate your belly so they can see, and the worst pain I had afterward was when that gas rose into my shoulder. It took about ten days for me to be able move comfotably, and probably close to a month to be able to wear jeans, but all that is SO worth it!

 :2thumbsup;  Great news JP. I am sure you will do well on PD. Having a tube hanging out of your body does take a little while to get use to  ::)
But you will have more control over your treatment, and less diet restrictions!! woohoo   :bandance;
