Thanks everyone.  All the testing was covered by grants.  I don't know why they didn't figure out the insurance business out sooner.  I knew my insurance didn't cover it, but the lady at Covenant told me that Medicare would cover it (I'm new to all this Medicare stuff, it just started on December 1st).  So.... I thought Medicare would cover what my insurance wouldn't.  What a great surprise.  Oh well... I am going to just assume it is for the best.  My 2 best friends live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and they will be helping me out.  It is also closer for my donor. (3 hour drive -vs- 7 hour drive).  I have had surgery at Baylor, and I was very impressed with them.  I will keep yall updated. :grouphug;

So now you just have to light a fire under Baylor's butt!  Just think, this will happen this year!  You will get your kidney and be done with dialysis hopefully for a long, long, long, long, long time.  I'm praying for you and your donor.

Check with the San Antonio hospitals.  You never know!!!!  I'll come visit you!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry donnia - hopefully this is a minor set back and things will get rescheduled soon.
The whole insurance thing is confusing. Each hospital told us different things and they were just as confused as we were.
It's my understanding that your private policy is the primary insurance for 3 years (I THINK that's right) and Medicare is secondary. Then it switches, so your primary becomes secondary, and you can get your transplant wherever Medicare allows.
If that is incorrect, someone please let me know.
Hugs to you donnia  :cuddle;

Well...rat poo!  That is not good news for you all.  I hope the hospital you are with can hurry up.

I thought this about private insurance and Medicare as well. I thought that as soon as you got a transplant Medicare becomes primary. I was wrong, and did not find out the truth until after my transplant. There are about three criteria they check, and if any of them are met, then your private insurance continues to be primary for the full 30 month coordination period. Mine is because my husband's employer has over 300 employees. I'm sorry, I can't remember the other two reasons, but it's something to be aware of and know which side you're going to fall onto when the transplant happens.

kelly, I am doing ok.  Baylor is going to accept Covenants tests, and do some more tests on my donor.  Hopefully they won't be too long since my donor had done so much at Covenant.
