I just thought I would see what this was all about. I was on dialysis from September of 2006 until around the 1st of November of 2007. My wife gave me a kidney, bless her. In any case, I wanted to get online and tell you all to keep your chin up, and to let you know that I am pulling for you. Even though I got a kidney, I still go back to the dialysis center and visit friends that I had met while on dialysis. I wanted for them to keep the faith.

Welcome isurvived o the IHD Family.
I like that name.
I'm glad you got a tranplant and are doing ell.
It is nice that you are remembering the people you saw in your dialysis days.
You sound like an encouragement to them and I am sure they need it.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I have to tell you that although I was not on dialysis for a long period of time, that I experienced both types of dialysis-PD and He-mo. When I was first diagnosed, they looked very hard at me because they couldn't figure out what caused my kidney problems. They finally decided that it was unrecognized high blood pressure. Since I was in such good health, other than my kidney problem, they told me that I would be a good candidate for PD. Since they showed me what my diet would be like on he-mo and on PD, I decided that they might be right. Well, I went from September to Christmas and had two peritonitis problems within a short time, and they decided that it had to come out. They took it out, put an ash catheter in and Christmas Eve Day, I was finally able to go home. Of course, I had to go back and get a fistula put in. After about six weeks, they asked me when I was going to have the ash catheter taken out. I got it done and from then on, I was on he-mo, until I got my transplant. As I said before, I go back periodically to see folks. In addition, I am the Vice President of our local Orchid Society. When I was on dialysis, I used to take my plants in to brighten up the day for patients, nurses and techs. I don't think I would want to have the jobs those folks have and I was very thankful that I was in the kind of shape I was in before going on dialysis. I have been lifting weights with my brother for quite some time, and I think that helped get me through some of the medical stuff pretty easily. Since I got my transplant, I have continued working out and even bought a treadmill which I use daily, weather permitting.

It's great to hear that you still go to see old friends at your unit, they will appreciate that. And your wife is one special lady.

I finally got over to the transplant page. It took me some time to find you folks. (Or should I say it took my wife some time to find you) She knows that I like to talk to folks that I have something in common with and here I am. Long before I was a dialysis patient, I used to work for a local organization which is responsible for sheltering, training (for jobs) and generally caring for the developmentally disabled. While I was there, I was a community work supervisor, among other things. It didn't pay much, but I got a lot of satisfaction from my work, plus I had a chance to meet some interesting people. I guess I came by it naturally-my mother taugh deaf children and my father set up speech and hearing programs for the developmentally disabled. The developmentally disabled are much like old folks. Sometimes people just want to put them away and leave them alone. That is so sad. I made some friends while working there because I used to take the folks to ballgames and all kinds of stuff. It was a hoot!!
