I am 46 years old.  I was diagnosed with  membranous glomerulonephritis at the age of 26.  For the past 20 years I have gradually lost kidney function.  I just entered stage IV.  My kidney function was 27 % with my last blood work.  My doctor has begun to talk to me about dialysis.  I have lived a normal life the past 20 years.  That is starting to change.  I am starting to feel tired much of the time.  I have a lot of questions to ask and I will in the appropriate forums.  My biggest question probably cannot be answered but I will ask it anyways.  Anyone want to guess what it will be?

More on that later,

I am a husband, a father, a grandpa.  My screen name came from a passion for bass fishing, but it is a double meaning name.  I started learning guitar a few years ago and I am now learning bass guitar as well.  So, call me BASSMAN (as in the fish) or BASSMAN ( as in playing bass guitar) :rant;  Either is fine with me.

I moderate on a guitar forum, so I am a little experience with internet forums and how they work and what is acceptable and such.  I did read all of the introductory threads.  I expect to be a frequent member and poster as I have a lot of questions.  I have read a lot over the years about my disease but there is no better information out there than talking to people that know first hand.

A thank you to the creator of this site!  I may be confused, but from what I have read, did he recently pass away?

Looking forward to being a part of this community,

:waving;   Bassman.   My father played the bass in a local band.  It's my favorite instrument!   :)

 :welcomesign;

Oh, and yes, Epoman has passed.  I joined IHD after his passing, so I don't know him personally.  But he is well thought of by all at IHD.  This is a great place to start and end.  Look forward to chatting with ya in the future.

Thanks kellyt!!!

Music is a great escape from anything bothering you!  I have sang in bands but I am not good enough on guitar to play in one.  I do my own thing, cover songs and an original or two.

Welcome Bassman to ihatedialysis.com

I appreciate the fact that you will be asking lots of questions because there is no where better to ask than the people who have been there. So with that said ask away.
The owner of this site passed away March 2nd 2007 and left his legacy amongst these forum threads. It was his belief that everyone have a voice about their medical care whether it was positive or negative, so be prepared to see both perspectives. Read and post all you want.

Thanks for taking the time to post your introduction.

welcome to the forum, Bassman. YAY, another musician! i've drummed for over 40 years and am always happy to meet a fellow player, it's unfortunate that it's under these conditions, but like the baxter delivery man told me, 'you now belong to a very, very exclusive club.

you'll find this site really helpful, i'm sure. from the loving support to the pages of info that you can't get anywhere else.

there's a few guitar players here, too, so we should get a dialysis band going, soon!

rock on!

I do know a little about online music collaborations.  I have done several through the guitar forum.  I would like to get to know the musicians on the site and heck yea, we can do the dialysis blues or something.  I wouldn't write the lyrics though as I have not experienced it yet and I hope that i maintain what function I have left and not have to.

I have some things going on right now but I will post up a blues drum beat and bass line to my soundclick when I have it ready. I would like to start a thread and see if anyone wants to add to it.  Is it ok to post a link to a soundclick account.  If not, we can do it by PM's.  I can help those that want to participate in the recording process.  I use freeware for my recording called Audacity and upload to soundclick.
