Rob showing off his pot of gold!

« on: December 09, 2007, 08:38:06 PM »

Curious as to others thoughts on this?

Personally, as much as I respect Oprah (who wouldn't, she is an amazing woman),  I think she needs to stay off the campaign circuit.  I really dislike when candidates use Celebrities to help them campaign.

 She will have absolutely NO influence in my voting.  I believe as a country we all follow the advice of celebrities too, too much.  I'll be voting with MY head and heart.     :twocents;   :usaflag;

i haven't voted for president in years, too many to count. i vote for the local issues, but just leave president blank. i refuse to vote for the lesser of two evils and they don't have a line for none of the above!.

I actually think Oprah will drive as many voters away from him as she will bring in.

The candidate my philosophies are aligned with has no chance of winning, so once again my vote will be more about who I don't want to win that who I do.   :-\

I haven't seen a candidate on either side that would make me want to go to my polling place next year.  The Republican contenders are a pathetic bunch and if the choice is either Barack or Hillary well...

So if i vote for someone and they end up a liar, that will give me the right to complain??   Didnt think so!!  I do not follow politics at all, i have enough to worry about within the four walls of my home than what some joe shmo is promising or saying to the people just to get their votes just so they can end up lieing or funking something up.  I just stick to myself, my life, my family, my problems and thats pretty much all i have to say about that ;)  :2thumbsup;

My wife is chiming in here with her  :twocents;, but we agree on all of this...

Hi Goofynina!!!  ;D  I totally respect your view point, but what our public officials do and the decisions they make has every thing to do with our everday personal life...we should concern ourselves with the folks who best represent our values and especially for us, our health related concerns - for example prescription costs; healthcare regulation, law, and funding; medical research, etc...

Because there are so many folks we need to consider, from local offices up to all those running for president it can absolutely be pretty overwhelming.  But it is now easier than ever to research, especially for the savvy IHD site users, by using our computers and checking out the candidates' website (which by the way, in my opinion, is the best way to find out who these folks really are - not so much in the media, which is too biased and always looking for controversy instead into their true character).

And as far as lieing goes, everyone does that...it is an unfortunate fact of life.  That's where staying informed, and even going so far as to write folks directly to keep on top of things really helps.  Its easy to get jaded by some of the shanagans you hear in the media a lot, but if we "write off" those in office or those running, all the time as bad guys/gals, then that's all we'd probably really end up with.  I even take it a step further and get involved in grassroots/issue campaigning so that I make sure the candidates know what this constituent's concerns are!

Oh and a few folks mentioned they either vote the lesser of two evils or don't vote because that's all it would be and I can understand that...I've been in that situation plenty of times, but look at it more like trying to find the one who most aligns with your values and priorities...again that's not always easy, but even if it comes down to just one thing that your dead set against, then you should vote for the "other guy/gal".

I hope all that makes sense...I realize when all is said and done we all have our own opinions and will do what we want - a great thing about this wonderful, blessed country we live in!!!  :usaflag;  Which if you think about it, is a freedom our fore fathers "voted" about a long time ago!  :grouphug;

Voting is such a personal decision.
In this country there is more interest in voting for American Idol than for the people that decide how tax dollars should be spent.

sure some of them do- thats why we have roads and police and fire fighters, medicare and foodstamps and medicade, health inspectors and state attorneys, garbage truck drivers and county landfills, health departments and libraries...the list goes on and on. This is a great country....with a great infrastructure, the more people who get involved the more likely you will see positive changes. Sure- there are abuses of power and tax dollars, but you can't discount all the great things our tax dollars DO accomplish.

Nicely said Glitter, the key is to vote (that is the key) for someone who will hold the line on taxes (a true conservative will do that) be effective on national security
(the democrats and our house leaders Palosi and Reed) have shown their not or will not. He must try and balance the budget. He must appoint conservative supreme court justices to keep various laws in place. He must not lie. He must not cheat. He must have foreign policy knowledge and He must understand the economy....Boxman
