me and my donor Joyce

« on: December 06, 2007, 12:55:51 PM »

One of my donors.... a previous student that I worked with has been notified that we are compatable.  She goes on Monday for Orientation at Baylor, then allllll kinds of tests on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  I am sooo excited.  Anyone with experience working with Baylor have any idea of time frames from here?  If she passes all her tests..... how long before they set up transplant??

 :yahoo; Yippeee!!!   :bandance;

From the time we found out Jenna's donor was a match until surgery was 2 months. But the donor had already been through evaluation to donate to another man, so our hospital accepted some of their labs and scans.

Good luck!

I'm not donating at Baylor, however, just to give you an idea from testing to our upcoming transplant date it will be 11 weeks.  I did all of my main testing in my home state and accomplished that in 3 weeks but there were additional tests that required travel to the transplant city and then waiting for committee approval.  The committee only meets once every two weeks.  My testing was 'expedited' and this was the fastest we could get everything necessary done and get an open date on the transplant surgical calendar.  I've heard of people getting dates from 2 months out to as far as 6 months out from the start of the process.

Congrats!

Never been to Baylor, but with my live donation, we were scheduled a week and a half later after the transplant team met and said yes for the green light that we could have the transplant.

I was in Baylor Dallas and my wife had her tests done end of last year and if I remember correctly she was approved about 1 week later.

After approval we were told that they can schedule the surgery when ever we want. In our case we were not in hurry so we waited and I contacted them end of Aug this year to schedule the surgery on mid Oct and that was possible. I don't know what would have been the fastest possible schedule.

Wow, she got approved that quick!!!!  That would be sp would be so wonderful.  I know she has a few tests left to do that she misssed from Tuesday.  She was on her way to the hospital and got rear ended.  She ended up going to the er at another hospital.... so she will make up those test next week I believe.  If she is approved and they tell me we can schedule whenever we want I will want it ASAP!!!!    The less dialysis sessions I have to do, the better!

Any progress during the holidays, has your potential donor finished the tests?

I hope you get the approved donor asap.

She did finish the tests, and i just got word today that they rejected her as a donor.  I don't know why, they wont tell me.  I do have another prospective donor who is a match.  She did her lab work through Covenent Hospital in Lubbock.  They work a little (LOL) faster than Baylor.  She is a 2 out of 6 allel match.  I have 1 other person who has sent their lab work in.  We are waiting to see if she is a match too.  If she is, we will see who is the best match, then start the physical testing on the one who matches the best.

I'll update when I know more.
