Sometimes-It pays to Complain

We went to a hotel earlier this week because of fire in the neighborhood.  The first room I was given was room 214.  I opened the door and witnessed a disaster.  Somebody's food was still on the stove, the room was a mess.  Back to the front desk, another room please!  The next room wasn't bad but something happened in the night that wasn't too cool, the fire alarm went off at 3AM!  Fire in the laundry room.  After we left the place and got home I went to the hotel's website (national chain) and wrote about what happened. 

This afternoon the hotel manager calls and says "we just credited your card the full amount of the stay".  Ok very cool, I like that.  He went on to give me his personal phone number and said that if we ever needed a room there again it would be on him. 

I didn't expect to hear a thing from them but I guess it does pay to complain!

Livecam, after all you've gone through the last thing you need is a bad experience at the hotel! I'm glad the manager contacted you, and wants to make it up to you. That's to his credit!!

That is very cool.. I have complained on several hotels.... no no avail.  These are high dollar hotels too... Marriott being one of them.... funny story there, we were there in Ft. Worth for a workshop (for deaf education teachers and interpreters).  My roomate and I noticed that the "couple" going in to the room next to ours looked like a strange pair.  The man  looked like a very overweight, bald, wealthy businessman.... the woman looked like a Playmate.  We went in our room and dropped off our bags.  Went downstairs for about 30 minutes, then back up to our room.  When we got in our room I was shocked.  WHEW!  I wished I was deaf for about an hour!  They were really going at it.  She was very vocal!  I do know his name is "John"!  OMG I was laughing so hard, but then again, I shouldn't have to pay $160 a night to listen to that "couple" go at it.  I was disgusted when I heard "John" call his wife about 3 hours later.  Talking all dirty to her... telling her how much he loved her...  Puh - leeeze! 

I complained (and I am a Marriott member) and heard nothing!

Back when I was on dialysis and could rarely sleep at night I carried earplugs everywhere.  It wasn't perfect but they did help.  Maybe units should be giving them away to every patient.  You might have had some use for them on that particular night!
