The National Living Donor Assistance Center has officially begun operations as of yesterday. The Center pays a living donor up to $6,000 for qualifying travel and subsistence expenses related to living donation that are not otherwise reimbursed through other sources, including the recipient. There are restrictions on the types and levels of expenses, and priority generally is given to low-income donors and recipients.
Details on the program features and process can be found on their web site at
http://www.livingdonorassistance.org.
This is an important development in living donation. The Center provides a valuable source of funding for people who might otherwise not be financially willing or able to donate.
