Hello, I am new to this group.  I just posted in the introduce yourself forum, but I'll go ahead and repeat some of that here.  I am hoping to donate to my husband, we have been found to be compatible.  Tomorrow we are going to meet with the surgeon at Stanford.  Does anyone know of a good list of questions to ask them?  I have my own list, but I'm sure I'll forget something.  I'm the kind of person who likes to understand exactly what to expect.  Also, has anyone else been through the transplant process at Stanford?  Any tips or experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi, hope things go well for you and your husband. I am also a pre-dialysis patient and Stanford is where I go for transplant analysis. I am on their transplant list. My husband wanted to donate but is the wrong blood type, so you are fortunate. They will run health tests on you to make certain you are in A-one condition. The transplant success rate at Stanford is excellent so you are in good hands. If all goes well, you will qualify for donation. Ask what recovery is like for you as the donor and how they access your kidney. There are a few ways. Hopefully you can have laproscopic surgery which allows for minimum scarring and less down time. Good luck.

This site has great info regarding the evaluation and the surgical process http://www.livingdonorsonline.org/kidney/kidney.htm and you can also post questions on the message forum where other living donors can offer suggestions http://www.livingdonorsonline.org/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi
