Transplant Medications and Upset Stomach

Hi Everyone
Len had his transplant 30 days now and every couple of days he gets an upset stomach. I think it is probably some of the medications he takes. They stop the calcitriol yesterday because his calcium was high. He is taking less medications then he was on dialysis but it stills seems like a bucket load to me. Is anyone else having stomach problems.
Cellcept - Rejection
Prograf - Rejection
Protonix - GERD
Valcyte - Viral
Nystatin - Fungal
Cardizem - Blood Pressure
Coreg - Blood Pressure
Stress Formula - Vitamin
Colace - Stool Softener
Bactrim - Bacterial
Baby Asprin - Blood Flow
Reglan - Nausea
Magnesium - Supplement
Simvastatin - Cholestrol
Flomax- Enlarged Prostate

Yes an upset stomach is totally normal. I am 5mths post transplant and I still get it on occasion. It is important to have a solid meal before taking the pills, that has helped me. Also, whenever we increase my immunosuppressants that is another time that it happens and I think that is just the adjustment of my body to the increase of medication. It does get better though with time.

With CellCept, it is suppose to be taken 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals according to the pharmacy. With that said, I was told by my transplant center that it depends on how well you tolerate the medication. I am on CellCept and Prograf too and at times I feel better if I eat something with the med, but other times I don't. But Reglan was also giving me a problem, once that was stopped I felt better. We are all different and react differently to our meds. Always ask your transplant center though. And of course that bucket of pills will get smaller over time.

The doctors also told me that the Prograf was causing my stomach problems.... it got better for me after the 3rd week. But i still occasionally get problems. If it gets too bad maybe they can swap medication.

I hope he feels better soon.
