First let me post this quote that inspired me to ask these questions:

I was taking four ibuprofen every four hours to be able to continue to work. I had no idea I was damaging my kidneys. 
 

Now, in my case, I am not taking Ibuprofen... but I am taking very strong pain medicines. Lortab and Oxycodone. Will this do damage to my transplant in the long run? Just curious, because I know I will be on these drugs for a very long time until the problem I have is fixed another way other than pain management.

Diabetes -  age 7

Neuropathy in legs age 10

Eye impairments and blindness in one eye began in 95, major one during visit to the Indy 500 race of that year
   -glaucoma and surgery for that
     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye
     - vitrectomy in good eye post tx November 2003, totally blind for 4 months due to complications with meds and infection

Diagnosed with ESRD June 29, 1999
1st Dialysis - July 4, 1999
Last Dialysis - December 2, 2000

Kidney and Pancreas Transplant - December 3, 2000

Cataract Surgery on good eye - June 24, 2009
Knee Surgery 2010
2011/2012 in process of getting a guide dog
Guide Dog Training begins July 2, 2012 in NY
Guide Dog by end of July 2012
Next eye surgery late 2012 or 2013 if I feel like it
Home with Guide dog - July 27, 2012
Knee Surgery #2 - Oct 15, 2012
Eye Surgery - Nov 2012
Lifes Adventures -  Priceless

Otto has been on pain meds after having his hips replaced and he did fine, but they always checked what would be safe with th transplant team first.

Yeah, my transplant team knows what I am on b/c they are the one prescribing it... so i  guess its ok. .:)

I don't think people know how much damage Ibuprphen can do to their kidneys. I think they think because it is over the counter it is safe.
I tell everyone to stay away from it if they can.


Yeah, my transplant team knows what I am on b/c they are the one prescribing it... so i guess its ok. .:)
