Back home from the hospital...

Well if anyone was following my "Girly" post then you know what's been going on. Well, Wednesday i went to Transplant clinic and the pain started again while I was there... I ended up in tears before the doctor arrived, and when he came in the room he examined me "down there" to see why i was in pain. He saw ulcers and admitted me to the hospital. He had me seen by a gynecologist and an infectious disease doctor. They did exams and scrapes for testing. They started treatment of Acyclovir IV anti-viral medicine, which started to make me feel better the next day. Now I am not in pain and the ulcers are healing. I still need to take the Acyclovir 3 times a day for 14 days.

What was the problem? Well, it wasn't no yeast infection like my family doctor told me (bastard)... it was Herpes Simplex Type 1, which usually shows up as an ulcer in the throat or a cold sore on the lips. So I asked why mine showed up in the genital area and they said because I had spread it there by maybe touching a sore on my mouth and then down there. The reason it showed up so bad? No immune system. They see this alot in transplant patients due to us having our immune systems suppressed.  I was relieved it wasn't Type-2 (Genital Herpes) that would of sucked, and I would of been dumbfounded as to how it happened since I am not sexually active. LOL.

Anyways.. just glad to be home and PAIN FREE down there... and I can finally pee again.

oh Angela! I am so glad you FINALLY have relief. I hope that doctor gets hemerrhoids, darn him!!!
AND the runs!!! Serve him right. So is Herpes Simplex 1 a temporary thing then? Due to low immunity?
That's a scary thought.

No, there is no cue for Hepres Simplex 1, 2(Genital) or Chicken pox (which is a form of herpes). Just treatments. The dr explained it to me like this... "98% of people who have the virus (any form) never know their whole life because the outbreaks are so mild (due to immune systems supressing it), so when your immune system is compromised (cancer patients, Aids patients, transplant patients and so on..) the outbreaks ccan be pretty bad since we have nothing to stop it.. " So, since now I have been dx'd and know I can have an outbreak in the future, if I feel it coming on (anywhere, throat, mouth, anywhere) then I take the anti-viral medicine (Ayclovir) and I won't have a major outbreak it will go away starting from the time i take the pills.

You sure did. So now that's something else to look forward to whenever I get a transplant. I keep trying to look at the positives. So far all I've seen are negatives, quite frankly!

Well, that is a negative, but I'm sure it don't happen a lot, I mean, it never happened with my first transplant... there's a positive.

Glad they figured out what was happening. It is really scarey when you go to someone that isn't familiar with transplants. Thanks for sharing your story.
