It is just Stuff

Anyone else have the attitude that it is all stuff when you look around at your stuff?  I cannot believe what I accumulate. It has been books lately.  I am going to sell it all and start over.  After all it is just stuff.

Sometimes.  Although there are some items that I won't sell.  But yeah, aside from those I want to throw everything in a dumpster and start a simple living lifestyle.

Yes, I have way too much stuff and have been trying to thin it out.
Gve some of my books and things to kidney foundation.

when i was a young, vibrant lizard, my motto used to be, 'if i can't carry it on my back with ease, i don't want it!'

but now, as the ol' skin leathers up and time has it's way with me, i look around and see a mountain of crap that i don't remember building at all.

i could throw stuff away constantly, and still have it build up.

the only stuff i want is my drums, guitar and some clothes.

the rest of it is all very, very ' expendable.'

I have noticed that the MUST HAVE things  i have gotten have  sadly turned into  JUST STUFF  and now is just FREAKEN JUNK    I really need to quit impulse buying

I think we all go through this when we look around at all the things cluttering our homes and go "where the hell did this all come from".  Half of it is stored away in closets, cabinets, and attics taking up space or stacked up in the "spare room" otherwise known as the junk room.  One thing I have found though is that as addictive as Ebay can be to buy stuff, it can also be a great place to sell stuff if you take the time to do it right.  In fact when I sold a bunch of stuff off some of the stuff I thought would never sell they were the first things to start hopping.  Take the time to look around and compare pricing for your item with others items already posted.  Make sure to get postage rates from the post office and or UPS/FedEx so you are charging enough but not too much for postage (Ebay will cancel your items if the postage is set too high).  Make sure to take pictures, items with even just one picture sell better than items with no pictures at all.  The last bit of advice would be to get a Paypal account if you don't already have one (very cheap) and only accept Paypal payments.  Most people that use Ebay already have a paypal account.  This way you don't have to worry about bad checks, or paying to cash money orders.  Plus paypal gives you protection services in case there is a problem when you buy or sell an item.

when the hurricanes hit Florida a few years ago- (4) and I had to pack 'the important' stuff to take to safety-I really realized how little the junk meant to me- I have spent the last two years cleaning out all the un-needed crap....its amazing what I thought was important before-really wasn't. I do not buy anything without thinking first wether I want to dust it/clean it. And I get rid of books once I read them- a book really has to resonate for me to give it a spot on my specail bookcase.

I can honestly say i dont have any junk , but then again i walked away from a marriage with nothing, so am slowly building my life back up , but hey they junk i left behind ..do i miss it ..no . i got my dogs and thats what counts !

we have a flea market here in the denver area that tells you to bring your "stuff" and sell it to the "understuffed"  since i live with my daughter most of my stuff now fits in one room. i even think that now i could do without my teddy bear collection. the only thing i have purchased in the last 3 years is the sun had i just bought at the renaissance festival a couple of weeks ago.

Trust me just because you go to a flea market doesn't mean by any means you are "understuffed".  I am a regular visitor to my local flea market and really shouldn't be.

When I get rid of my stuff, I make it into something that I sell to someone else.  Old clothes become quilts, old coats become teddy bears, etc.  I suppose the quilts are useful, but a lot of it becomes knick-knack type stuff.  I've sworn off buying knick-knacks for myself, though - I have too much stuff already.  So if I'm making stuff that other people want, does that mean I'm an enabler?

I hesitate to respond to the thread, since I am a pack rat by nature and that is going to bite me soon, as I will probably be leaving this apartment (after 6 years) to go to a cheaper one (if I get the job) or to go back to my home in Barbados.  Where my stuff is concerned, going home is an easier proposition as I just need to fill a container.
But moving to a smaller apartment - HORRORS!

I am generally NOT a hoarder by nature, and I like to throw stuff out regularly. However, like many people, there are things I collect that are pointless.

My biggest downfall is bull terrier paraphernalia, particularly statues. I have them all over the place. How utterly pointless! And yet, still I buy them. I have bull terrier salt and pepper shakers, bull terrier blankets, a bull terrier watch, a matching bull terrier handbag and purse, bull terrier pajamas for heaven's sake, and goodness knows what else.

OTH, my husband is a terrible hoarder. Any old junk. Arrrgghh! drives me insane.

Since the water line broke in our basement and made a BIG mess we have gotten rid of a lot of "stuff"  .  Don't even miss it being gone.  We have taken a full pickup load of "stuff" to the garbage dump as well as numerous bags of stuff that has gone out with the regular garbage.  There was stuff in that basement that hadn't been used in years. Some stuff we found we didn't even know where it came from!!

Oh well THAT one I figured out for myself, a long time ago. However, I have to say they don't breed as much as dog poo in the back yard. I swear it's not possible for two dogs to make that much mess by themselves.
