If you had a time machine, would you travel forewards or backwards and why?

Uhm.....

Forwards because I want to know how my life and the people life around me will be like in the future.  How many houses I will own or how many zeros I will have in my account.  Dreaming thinking here.

Sort of like the movies "Back to the Future".

I would go backwards, maybe to the ancient Egyptian times and be one of the royal folks and get to see all of the fantastic things they built using human labor!

I would definitely go backwards. I would just say no to all my ex wives. I would change just about everything i did wrong. The only thing i wouldn't change is the time i spent with that cheer leader in high school.

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

I would go back.  I would have loved to have grown up in the 50's.  I LOVE that kind of music and love the poodle skirts.  I was born in the 70's but grew up in the 80's, my hair could have done without all the hairspray that I tortured it with.  I definitely had the high hair.

I was born 70's and grew up 80's also.  Though I never put the hairspray in except for certain occasions.  I still have the hair down to my ass.

As far as time travel is concerned I would love to travel in both directions, but wouldn't want to live there.  Life growing up wasn't always easy, but it wasn't horrible either.  I have to say I would leave things as they are.

Time Travel....  Sometimes when I am going to sleep at night, I do travel back in time (in my mind) and I wonder about the choices that I made, how would my life be different if I hadn't fallen in love with THAT boy... what would my mother be like if she hadn't died... what if I had stayed in Maine...  all of those what ifs.

Funny though, each scenario that I run through my head ends up with...  I'm glad that I fell in love with THAT boy (heartbreak & all...)  Even though she is gone she is still my mother, I hear her voice in my laugh, and I see her gracefulness in my fingers, I am a living testament to her life. (PKD and all) And I had to leave Maine to be able to live this life I've made for myself.  I miss seeing on a daily basis, some of the people that have loved for years but it doesn't mean that I love them any less - I am just loving them from afar.

When I was a child, I dreamed of the future, and a lot of my dreams came true.  Now as an adult, I dream about the past and the journey that I took to get right here, right now.  I would change a lot of superficial things.  I'd get in the habit of eating less, exercising more.  I would have written more letters/e-mail, I'd have been more careful with my money...  when I think of it, these are all things that I still have the chance to change....  Nah, it would be easier to have a real time machine and then go back in time and force my old self to be more disciplined.  Crap, now I really sound like a grown up!!!

Ok, it is late, and I am off to bed - maybe I'll travel back to that 9th grade ski trip - vodka was involved... maybe if I had less to drink that night, I wouldn't have gone to the pay phone and discovered the horrible horrible habit "Drink & Dial..."

If I had a time machine, and could travel back in time WITH the knowledge of what I know today... I would definitely go back in time to when we lived in South Dakota and I would try to convince my parents that moving to Florida would lead to my Lupus coming out and going out of control due to a drastic climate change... which would in turn maybe keep the Lupus in hiding until i was older (when it normally comes out in people) and I wouldn't of had to go through all I went through... HOWEVER, Then I wouldn't have my kids, so POOF... I choose to go to the future, and see if I live to see my children lead long happy lives.
