I think Ezra Pound means that if you don't take action to change your circumstances, but just wait to be helped, it may never come. That's how I see it, but I might be reading it wrong.

I get Pound's thought - you have to stand and fight - but if you truly are in bondage, you might not realize there's such a thing as freedom in the first place.
Can you tell I'm studying too many legal cases?  I'm starting to argue like a lawyer....

i love this poem....

i carry your heart with me by E. E. Cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Been having a rough time the past couple of weeks and this thread was good.  I have a quote that  fits with what I am going through with some things (not physical but personal)

I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul. "Invictus" by William Ernest Henley

This quote is actually what made me decide to pursue a live donor kidney

Every truth passes through three stages before it is recognized:
In the first, it is ridiculed,
in the second, it is opposed,
in the third, it is accepted as self-evident.
