"Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the
fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free."
Jim Morrison
This is one of my all time favorite quotes. It's so true. We all live our lives in fear. We're controlled by our fears. The fear of being rejected so we do things we wouldn't ordinarily do in order for people to like us. The fear of being different from anybody else so we blindly follow fashion and become little cookie cutter copies of each other. The fear of not being loved so we stick ourselves in meaningless relationships that lead nowhere. We're afraid to be OURSELVES, individuals. We're afraid to feel pain and loss but feeling pain and loss makes us alive--we die when we don't feel anything. We're afraid to feel because that's what makes us vulnerable. Nobody wants to feel that way but dealing with it and facing it makes the pain less able to hurt us. Facing your fear head on takes it's power away and it can't control you anymore.

Today's Message of the Day is:
Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably...
And never regret anything that made you smile.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....

From my late grandmother (who was a VERY proper, southern lady in public -- wore gloves to church, never wore white shoes after Labor Day or before Easter, always carried a lace handkerchief in her pocketbook, etc.):
"Pretty is as pretty does." (I think this means that "pretty" people must also act "pretty")
"Chew with your mouth closed."
"Take your elbows off the dinner table."
"Don't count your chickens before they hatch."
And, my all-time Grandmother favorite...when she thought someone else was having only good luck and she was having only bad luck....
"That's okay because the sun won't shine on the same dog's ass all the time."

A few of my favorite quotes...
"When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say,' I used everything you gave me' "

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. "
Martin Luther King, Jr.
And a few from one of my favorite people --
"The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience"
-Eleanor Roosevelt
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams"
-Eleanor Roosevelt
And a not quite so reverent quote from Mrs. Roosevelt...
I once had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: no good in a bed, but fine up against a wall.

Whats best in life, you might ask?
"Whats best in life is to crush your enemies,
to drive them before you, to see those whom they cherish in tears,
to take from them that which they possess,
to ride their horses,
and to hold their wives and daughters in your arms!!!"
That is GOOD!!!

Ghengis Khan is my hero and my inspiration. This thread is labeled..."Inspiring Quotes"...so I memorized that quote a couple years ago, and decided I would give you all a taste of my personality and philosophy.

To each his own Patton, however you might want to read that quote again and really analyze it in the context of Genghis Khan's life. He lived in an undoubtedly brutal time and that would help to explain much of his own brutality but are you saying that your "personality and philosophy" include cruelty (to see those whom they cherish in tears), theft (third and fourth lines) and rape (fifth line)? Surely you can do better than that.
Even an overwhelming need to crush enemies should not dehumanize us ourselves because if we go down that road our enemies have won and we have lost everything. That is BAD.
If Kit's big stick was meant for me, what have I done to be whacked?
BTW, Genghis Khan is an interesting historical figure and a fascinating one. Let's hope your "enemies" don't also hold him as their hero and inspiration.

"Most of us aren't going to win any big victories, but we can win little ones every day, and they mount up."
