Not including dialysis sessions, but checkups with the neph, dentist, GP, psych, etc.?  I got to thinking about it, and it seems like it would be a part time job in itself for all the checkups Joe really needs to go to.  He hasn't been to an endocrinologist (for his diabetes) for far too long.  He's overdue for an opthamologist.  He could probably use some counseling.  He'd be going to 1 or 2 every week it seems!

How about everyone else?

I see my neph every month, regular dental appts. gynecologist. eye doctor. If needed, a surgeon. Otherwise, FORGET IT!!
Can I say it? I HATE DOCTORS!!! Well, I don't, I just hate what they represent....pain & bad news!!!

I am on PD so only have monthly check-ups and have my vitals taken and blood drawn, discuss any concerns, they download my cycler chip, copy my vitals sheet, give me more EPO, ask me a checklist of questions, and that is about it till next month.   See my neph. every 3 months or whenever necessary.

It is a part-time job to see everyone.  Just make one appointment a month and you should be done in time to start over.  That is if nothing goes wrong and it is just check-ups.  Let's see if we can come up with 12.  (not counting Neph)

1.  Dentist (every 6 months)
2.  Opthomologist
3.  Dermatologist (every 6 months)
4.  Cardiologist
5.  Vascular Surgeon
6.  General Pract.
7.  OBGYN
8.

Lately I seem to have FAR too many:

In April I had:
2 days of Baxter training (switching from Fresenius)
1 clinic visit
1 dermatologist visit
1 day of yearly transplant workup tests (still a few left)
mammogram and breast ultrasound
bloodwork

and I have to meet with the transplant team next week

Most of these visits cost me about $100/day, not including my lost pay (about another 80-100/day).
These add up!!

This reminds me to get dentist check up and opto.  Do any of you avoid to go check up so that you do not want to hear bad news.

Sorry this might be a dumb question but Why do most of you have to see dermatologist so often? is it requested by your Neph. ?

Just wondering.

Hi Amanda,

When I had my transplant I was on various drugs that that made me more sensitive to sunburn, along with the weakend immune system. It puts me at a higher risk of skin cancer. It is more a preventative measure.

Well, an idea I've had (but have not implemented) is getting a big calendar and writing everything on it and hanging it some where really noticeable, like on the fridge, or the front door, so I can't help but see it.
