I just want to express my issues. I don't need advice but could be helpful. I started hemodialysis in January and went on short term disability. Fast forward 6 months and now I'm on PD. My doctor said he thinks I'm ready to go back to work. I work at a factory in the machine shop tool and die deprtment. ( making tools from raw pieces of steel). I've been there for three years. We are a Union shop. So my social worker wrote a letter saying I can work with some restrictions. 1. Can't lift over 10 pounds( okay that's easy) 2. Must wear gloves and a mask(again that's fine) 3. Must keep abdomen protected.
Work called and said they can't accommodate the last request. My job isn't very physical or dangerous (just keep your fingers clear) but they are afraid that I could hurt myself and then sue them. The company told me that they can't make the decision so now there is a third party involved! The union is trying to negotiate but is having a hard time. I've exhausted my short term disability so I'm now on long term. My insurance is wanting me to persue Social Security disability now. I'm so stressed out. I'm only 26 years old and I feel like my working life is over. I argued with them that it would probably be the same as someone who had a hernia surgery or gallbladder removal. They just told me they're not doctor's and are unfamiliar with my medical issues. Sooo frustrated. Pretty soon I'll probably forget how to do my job if I do go back.
