Hi, just looking for info on dialysis and kidney transplants. I’ve been on dialysis over 4 years and listed with two hospitals for a transplant. It’s comforting to see that I am not alone and that many other people are going through the same things I am. As you all know, it’s tough but you keep on truckin’ !!!  Guess I am giving away my age (61) lol  ;)

I was born in 1957, too, so I had to re-read your post to figure out what gave your age away ("keep on truckin'" sounded normal to me :) ).

1984 double nephrectomy
1985 transplant from dad
1998 lost dads kidney, start PD
2003 peritineum burst, back to hemo
2012 start Nxstage home hemo
2020 start Gambro AK96

       still on waitinglist, still ok I think

Hi Jules.

Welcome to IHD!

There are a LOT of us just waiting.  Many are listed, some of us are not due to other medical reasons Drs feel it not such a good idea.  So we just continue our tretments, watch what we eat and drink, and continue to defy the odds.

Just over 5 years already.  My clinic tells me I have some of the best labs of everyone there.  I never feel 'sick' so I think I must be Blessed and doing something at least half right.

I Hope you are doing at least as well until you get your kidney.

Thanx Charlie for the welcome. My labs are good and have no other serious problems. I am diabetic so sometimes hard figuring out what to eat on two different diets. My main problems have been with my arm, I have had two fistula’s that quit working and one graft quit.  For years I was in and out of the hospital trying to keep them running. I now have a catheter in my chest since March. It sucks for the summer because I can’t swim which I love and can’t shower which I love lol  The only good thing is I haven’t been to the hospital, I am hooked up quickly at dialysis and don’t get stuck and am out of there quickly lol  But since I am towards the top of the list I am dealing with it til I get a kidney. I have O positive blood type so I guess it takes longer. I am hanging in there but do get tired so just take naps lol

Hi Jules,

 :welcomesign;  to IHD. You can go to the website for DaVita and they have tons of recipes and all of them are labled as to what type of diet they are for. Other than that, I am 79 and have been told no transplant for me, boy that shocked me. But, I have stayed in the same range for 11 years now, so no problem.

Hello Jules (your lovely name sounds French ? ) and welcome to IHD. Like yourself I am also on the transplant-waiting-list and, as you can read, we are all going through similar "things" and it is so good to exchange our experiences here on IHD.
