Shouldn`t that free shipping be qualified?   Remember that IHD spans the globe!

My understanding is it takes 1G to run Vista.  This has 512 so either it will run slow or you'll have to add memory.

I still hate Dell so I can't bring myself to give them yet MORE money.  I'm looking at HP's and maybe Apple.

Thank you Rossman for the alert.   :thx;

You are correct and I would definitely upgrade memory which can be done elsewhere for cheaper.

2GB for $82 + shipping

Sell the factory installed 512MB for $50 on eBay :)

Guess how much Dell charges to upgrade from 512MB to 2GB?
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 2DIMMs [add $190]

$399 + $89 2GB RAM - $50 eBay = $438 + sales tax

Apple computers are nice but be prepared to spend at least $999 for a decent iMac 17".

This is HALF that price (including 2GB RAM upgrade) and you get a larger LCD.

This one is a lot like the one I bought and I love it. I did purchase the 2g of ram and it is just awesome, I then took the 512mb ram and installed it in my office computer because it was the same. So now I have 2g of ram in both computers. Thanks for the heads up on the excellent deals Ross.

I upgraded to the "ultrasharp" monitor for an extra $70.  I can get more memory, an SATA DVD burner, and maybe a PCI-E video card at Fry's for less than Dell wants.  I think with tax it ended up being just a little over $500, still a great deal.

Actually your computer is better because:
1) It's the higher end and larger Dimension E521.
2) You have both Windows XP and Vista (on the way).
3) most importantly because RossMAN said so :)

Smart thinking I would have gone the same route.

Except for I would have upgraded to the 20" LCD for $50, sell it for $250 and buy a better 22" widescreen.
