Note: accidentally posted this in intro so I reposting it!

Hi everyone, long time no talk.
So I had dialysis today which means I did not get dialysis on the weekend. I knew I had a bit more fluid than usual being the fact that I haf shortness of breath. So I got on the machine and 2 min in it starts beeping over and over. So they had to switch the blue and red lines. (Dont understand why ir what that means so please explain). So within 5 min I start sweating like crazy and feeling nauseous. I understand it happens wheb they are pulling too much fluid but shouldnt that happend near the end of dialysis?? Okay so I knew this was going to be a long awful treatment. So somehow i got through the treatment literally fanning myself the whole time and 15 min left I throw up. ( i will be gping into detail so if youre of weak stomach just click out now). I am not a big eater a had some melon and and english muffin this morning but I threw up everything I had the day before. Literally.everything. Okay throw up is normal I get that. But it looled as if nothing was digested properly. It had no fluid in it looked liked mashed potatoes the chunky kind. The techs even made note and I told hil I didnt even eat much this morning. He asked if I had a big dinner and I really didnt. So they just ended the treatment right then and there and I was glad I needed to cool down honestly. Finally I come home and I feel my legs do not have any strength. They feel like noodles. Never had this happen before only when I come back from a long stay at the hospital. But yeah my body is already small as it is im 5 ft and 83 pounds and 3 kg was too much to take off. I do very well with my fluid but this weekend it was just very hot. Let me know if anyone else experienced this.

83 pouinds is a pretty small person.  Attempting to take off 3 KG is way too much at one time.

HOWEVER, you are the one that has to control your fluid intake.  Melon is not the best choice as besides having an amount of potassium it is primarily water contributing to how much you will have to take off.

Water balance is critical.  You HAVE TO have water to survive, but then again you cannot flood yourself.

I am a 220 pound Guy.  I limit my fluid intake severely.  I allow myself this one large cup of coffee first thing in the morning, after that, only when I feel I have to have a drink, I will allow myself one mouthful.  That is all.  I hold that mouthful, only swallowing as small as I can so to make it last as long as I can.   Retired, I spend a lot of my day out in the yard, messing with weeds, picking up the little sticks, tree branches that have fallen.  Mowing the 3 acres.  Putter in my small garden.  Summer I tend to sweat a LOT.  I have to take a break, come in the house to cool off and get a drink.  I made a tall insulated glass of Kool-Aid about two thirds full,, then fill it with ice.  And allow myself only that ONE mouthful.  Since I don't smoke inside the house I'll go outside the garage and have a cigarette, afterwards I will allow myself one MORE mouthfull of that COLD Kool-Aid.  It may take me most of the day to drink that one 32 ounce glass.  Sometimes a handful of cold grapes can feel even better than a drink of water.

I try not to worry too much about the water content of meals.  Salad does carry more, meats have a bunch if you don't dry it out cooking.  I hate dry meat.   Being as tough as I am with my fluids I don't have to worry so much about food fluid.  Many days weighing in at Dialysis I am barely ONE k over.  The thought of the shock taking off large amounts drives me to stay as dry as possible.

I have been near heat stroke from dehydration many many years ago from working outside in hot weather.  The slightest dizzyness, or any other sign of dehydration, you can bet I am inside the house and making myself a cup of chicken broth.  That little bit of added salt makes that water absorb quicker into the bloodstream, helping to reconstitute you if you were too dry.

This method works for me.  It may not work so well for you.  We are all slightly different so you need to try and see what you feel like.  Learn exactly how 'dry' you can SAFELY be.

Charlie B53  summed up fluid control perfectly, I can only add during the hot summer days I carry a squirt gun one shot in my mouth and I don't feel thirsty.  Plus I am always armed to shoot my cats.  I would also add when I started Dialysis I was still passing huge amounts of fluid, I really did not need to have fluid removed and I would only allow 1 kilo to be removed or I would feel horrible. Last fall I had a heart attack and needed two Angioplastys the die used really dropped my output down and since then I occasionally have 4 kilos removed and it does not seem to cause any problems however I weigh :around  130 kilos, that sounds slimmer then 280 pounds.

Maybe you have some delayed emptying going on. Ask your doctor about gastroparesis. If food you eat hasn't been digested after a day, being checked for gastroparesis might be worth it.

Here's a link about gastroparesis.
