I found that changing the PAKs on the NxStage was a real pain.  My care partner has nothing to do with maintaining my setup, so I had to start a two hour prime, arrange to be there when it was done, and get in a 7 hour SAK fill before the next treatment.    My PAKs would last 12 to 13 treatments, so I was dealing with this every other week.

NxStage support put me on a waiting list for a Linx water filter, and it finally arrived last October.   I've been holding off this post since I wanted to wait until I knew how long a PAK would last.  My answer is 56 SAKS (13 50L+38 60L) and 81 days (10/16 to 1/6).  The message seems to indicate the PAK "expired" (though I thought that was supposed to be 90 days) rather than failed the water resistance test.   In any case, I an delighted with the results, and I expect my clinic will be as well since they get billed $500 per PAK.

I get the same 12 -14 treatments in a PAK before needing to be changed. Sometimes more if I keep the water softener working good.

They sent me a Linx. I  unpacked it and read up on the directions. They said it had to be 6 feet away from the existing machine and that I had to run a separate drain line.  Most of you know I am relatively new to this and I spent a bit of time setting up the "room" to work for dialysis  just 9 months ago. I ran the water line and drain line through the crawl space and up through the floor. We did not want lines across the floor.

After studying the manual, which said I could not TEE into the drain line we decided not to rearrange all this as we hope to be moving in a few months. So for now I will keep changing PAKs.

And cass, NxStage never mentioned a cost, I am guessing it saves them a bunch of PAKS. But then again I don't see the bills anyway.

The Lynx has two filters, and only one is in use at any time.  The system will occasionally back-flush the filter not in active use, which requires a drain line.   Although this wastes a little water, it is a LOT than the amount wasted by an RO system which typically discards as much water as it uses, and also uses water while in "Standby" mode.

Strange Linx problem.  I had the Linx replaced for maknig funny noises and alarming with both leds solid red.  I blew through two PAKs after 10 treatments each; was getting 55+ treatments (almost 3 months) on the previous Linx.

When I was down to ZERO Paks except the one in the Pureflow, I called tech support.  They refused to send a new PAK outside my regular order until I have absolutely none.   The RN at my clinic worked it out with customer support and a spare PAK is arriving.

That doesn't sound like the NxStage I use to know. They always wanted us to have a spare, whether we asked for it or not. Maybe it was a new tech or they didn't read your recent history/problem with the Linx and thought you were trying to hoard. But Linx or no Linx, they should not argue with a customer when they say they need another PAK or anything for that matter.

Husband had ESRD with Type I Diabetes -Insulin Dependent.
I was his care-partner for home hemodialysis using Nxstage December 2013-July 2016.
He went back to doing in-center July 2016.
After more than 150 days of being hospitalized with complications from Diabetes, my beloved husband's heart stopped and he passed away 06-08-21. He was only 63.

The RN spoke with NxStage and was told tech support will only send out a PAK if one is down to zero, and that apparently includes the one in the pureflow, but that customer service will.
