CHRISTMAS 2015: What did you get at your Center?

I am at a DaVita Hemo Center; Last Friday we had our Christmas Party and received our gift from DaVita....well, the party fell through and we didn't have one.  We all received a gift from DaVita....it was a book of games; and puzzles and connect the dots!  Something you would buy a kid and give them to keep them busy for a few hours.  Every year they get cheaper and cheaper. 

I realize that Christmas is all about giving and not receiving; but come on...! 

And then to top it off; after the FA of the place passed out all the gifts; and just before he left for the day; he announced in the middle of the treatment floor at the Nurses Desk; that he (with arms out stretched out like he was the next coming) was buying everyone lunch on MONDAY (today)....!  All the staff and patients cheered "YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"  And then he said...NO NO NO...only DaVita staff is getting lunch....not the patients.   We all boooooo'd him.  That was just rude to announce that he was buying them lunch; right after he told us they didn't have time to do our lunch that we were promised.  Really don't care for this guy!  AT ALL.

I was told my center got some really cheap stuff..its the thought that counts I guess.  HOWEVER.......there is an older gentleman who goes for hemo.  His elderly wife comes with him each time and waits for him in the waiting room.  She asked how many did hemo and when told she knitted them all a hat for Christmas.  My nurse asked if she would do some for PD patients and she enthusiastically said yes.  Now this woman doesn't know me or even what I look like but I'll cherish that hat as a loving gift from a stranger.

I am a home hemo patient at Fresenius.

They gave me a blanket with "Fresenius Medical Care" printed on it in huge letters. It is not very thick so I am not sure how much warmth it will provide but better than a stick in the eye.

At my center everyone got a pillow in addition to the book and "dinner" which was four small pieces of a wrap (roast beef and turkey) (about 1/2 a wrap), some animal crackers, Capri sun juice and apple sauce.  Also the pillow/book was in a nice gift bag that could be re-used and if I was to buy it one off it would be worth $2 at minimum!  I thought the pillow meant it was a much larger gift than last year.  I also won the raffle and won some plastic stuff (AM shift might have had more time and played bingo).

yeah; last year we had a nice lunch and they played Bingo and some other games...it was pretty nice...this year...ZIP!  Just the cheap book.  Which; I do appreciate the thought; but someone could have put a little more thought.....into it.

My nurse loves me (I think). She showed the most patience and compassion during my training than I could imagine. I feel very lucky to have her.

It is only the management of the clinic I have trouble with.

I was visiting in Oklahoma and had dialysis there over Christmas.
So day 1 was the dietitian came through with half a deviled egg, a sucker and a tiny cup of soda.
Day 2 I got the Fresenius Care blanket. Really too thin to be of any use, but better than a stick in the eye.
Being a visitor I was expecting nothing.

I got a Pashmina scarf/shawl.  Everyone did but they came in several colors/patterns.  There also was a food buffet, but I didn't have any when I first arrived and it was no longer there when I left.  Another time, I asked nicely and was given a very nice fuzzy and warm blanket.  Mostly I use it to support the back of my neck as I'm most of the time warm enough not to need it.

My secret pal at the dialysis center gave me a couple of kids coloring books and some washcloths in various colors.

Got a Fresenius blanket :use it for additional warmth when my fuzzy blue blanket ain't enough.  Strangely, a sugar cookie, for some reason it was unexpected and it was good.  That cookie was the best gift I have gotten in years.
