http://www.kidney.org.uk/home/news-2/breaking-news-dialysis-to-lose-specialised-commissioning-status/
From the NKF website:
Despite every effort from the renal community – led by NKF and the All Party Parliamentary Kidney Group (APPKG), NKF learnt yesterday that Ministers have decided that as from April 1st 2015 Dialysis will be commissioned by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG’s) and that NHSEngland will no longer be responsible for dialysis.
At a meeting in the Department of Health yesterday (18th November 2014), Richard Jeavons, Director of Specialised Services, told a stunned meeting that Ministers had informed him that Dialysis was no longer to be a Prescribed Service, and that after a period of consultation led by the Department of Health which will run from the end of November for six weeks, a Bill will be introduced in Parliament during February and the change to CCG commissioning will commence on 1st April 2015.
The meeting also learnt that co-commissioning was not an option available to Dialysis unless the move to CCG commissioning failed.
The meeting was not able to learn from Richard Jeavons any detail as to how CCG commissioning would work or what commissioning models would be used.
The Renal community led by the NKF must now consider if there is any further chance to reverse this decision or delay its implementation whilst proper and full consultation takes place ( not over the Christmas period as planned).

... Strangely enough, I have not heard anything from any of the Renal Communities or Renal Charities
about this forthcoming discriminatory action against ESRF-patients here in the UK ...
... and I am very surprised that no protest was heard loud enough about this life-important matter ... ?
Why have none of the Renal Communities and Renal Charities gone really public
about such a life-important matter concerning renal patients?
...
How come?

If you look on the NKF site and 'nilla support groups.
This is being challenged with letters to MP's press, and so on as an Urgent Call to Action..

But I agree, I don't understand WHY kidney gets so little publicity compared to cancer, heart, diabetes.

... Could it be that not enough is being done about that ?

I'm inclined to agree with you.
But. Kidney Charities need to unit, and we need a Kidney Logo.. thats something thats recognisable, and unique. Kidney Research in the UK doesn't and Won't share its resources, and probably has the most cash.
The NKF and BKPA have teamed up, but kidney STILL gets overshadowed by big charites, that spend millions on PR, advertising, chugging,
We can highjack the Runs, the Parashoot drops, the 'Go Purple'.. The fact remains that kidneys aren't sexy, emotive, or 'fashionable' compared to other diseases.
Go green for kidney disease maybe? But then with election year coming up we might be mistaken for Green Party Supporters?
I'm a kite flyer, and I'm trying to get Kites associated with kidney awareness. Already used a few times in the USA for transplants.. ANYONE any age can enjoy the wonders of a kite..
Wish I had an answer, I really do:)

Hello JW77,
Thanks for bringing all these points to my attention.
I can see the problem as you have pointed it out and
hopefully we come up with some good ideas.
One of the most important point seems to organize something
and get many ESRF-people together as soon as possible.
How can that be achieved ?
Best wishes from Kristina.
