I've been measuring my days in spoons since I found this site about a year ago.  I've got no spoons, unfortunately, comes out of my mouth too much lately.  The story is a really good way to explain what having a chronic disease feels like to your friends and family though.

People who don't live it, do not feel it. They can not comprehend the magnitude of this disease, and all of it's many facets of treatment.

If I don't look sick the why the hell am I so damned tired all of the time? The dialysis tech told me today she had it figured out. Between work and dialysis it is a wonder I am still moving.

I am having the opposite problem -
people come up to me and tell me I look sick -
people I do not even know -
my comment- "Oh, would you like to donate a kidney?"
sometimes I am feeling okay and then that ruins my day-
one lady, I know, was saying,"Just look at her skin" -
I have always been tan - I am blonde and I never sun burn -  ??? to that remark

I had a women admire my beautiful tan and ask me where I went on vacation. I told her it was from my failing kidneys and she called me a liar. My nephrologist told me to stay out of the sun because of my tan,which I made a little deeper with "Tan in a Can". He said if that was how I goti t, I could keep it.  :rofl;

People who don't live it, do not feel it. They can not comprehend the magnitude of this disease, and all of it's many facets of treatment.

I usually wear long sleeves and try to dress up when I can. I've gotten pretty good
at hiding my situation and when I'm feeling bad, I'm alone in my room or in bed.
Some folks think I'm getting rich off of WELFARE which is so far from the truth it aint funny.
Others say things like "must be nice not to have to work."

Poor, isolated, depressed, sometimes I daydream about having a job or starting a bizz,
then reality kicks me in butt again.

Try explaining why you can drink Bourbon but not Beer or Ginger Ale but not Mountain DEW.
Next time some one says "you don't look sick" tell them to Grow Some Eyes!

if i feel down or  feel sickly funny enough i tend to make-up more - an extra spray of tan, brighter lipstick etcccc then when say to work colleague or friend do you mind if i dont come feel knackered - you get a look as if OK you dont want to ! just say !! what do you want me to do leave my hair greasy pull holey tights on and trudge around coz i have a serious health issue NO - waiting to go into the dialysis training unit tuesday ( straight from work heels and everything ) s
nurse who i not met before came out and said that i cant wait in this area for patients in the unit !! URM I AM A PATIENT it made me giggle though. thinking of vanity i have told my daughter if i ever end up in a coma or coffin she must ensure my eyebrows are plucked and hair done if viewing ha i deal with this thing with humour 90 % of the time and the other 10 % well different story.................
