My FIRST night sleeping with Pierre!

::I have not written on line for weeks....so much sadness and disbelief.
I had my PD catheter put in on Feb 15th....I had much leakage and drainage, and was very uncomfortable. I started training at Davita and quickly learned how to manually dialyzes and then finally leaned the cycler...I named my machine ....Pierre, because I have this "country French" theme going on in my bedroom, and because with all the tubes running outta my bedroom and down the hall to the bathroom....my grandchildren say, it looks like I am " peeing in the air.....Pierre!" I was nervous the first night.....unsure I would be able to sleep at all.........I was awoken the next morning by my phone ringing....IT WAS 9:15am!!!!! I had slept thru the entire night....with not ONE alarm going off and no sounds or feelings that bothered me enough to awake me!
Then the greatest thing happened to me.......I got to stay in my pajamas and snug back down into my bed with a cuppa coffee.... because .....I DID NOT HAVE TO GO ANYWHERE!!!! NO more trips to the clinic....hip hip hooray!!!!!! I have some of my LIFE back! I feel so in control. I am so happy, because I was so worried this would not work out for me....but so far....SO GOOD. Now tonight....I am actually excited to go to bed and snug down with my Pierre!

Thank you so much for this post Nan, It gives some of the newer members some insight on home dialysis. Epoman aways said being on the home dialysis nxstage was like being on vacation.

Magnifique, mon amie!
Frenchmen know how to treat a lady (sorry, you non-french guys). Hope you continue to have a great time with Pierre.

That's great news Nan, I'm so glad for you. I remember your earlier posts when you were unsure which side to have the catheter fitted, (which side did you opt for by the way?) I've been wondering how you were doing and now it's great to read some good news.
It's also good that you don't have problems sleeping to the sound of the cycler which is a big problem for some people. So keep on snuggling up in your duvet on those cold winter mornings knowing you don't have to get up to do in-centre anymore.

Glad to hear that you are doing well with "Pierre". I have been wondering how you were doing. Ran into one of your nurses and she said you were doing well. Isn't it nice to have your days back just for you and not at the beck and call of the hemo unit? I can't wait until I will have my days back too.

You know THIS is what this board is all about! Because of the support and ADVICE from you guys....I was able to "move on" with a new adventure. What started to prompt me was this past Christmas, I lost three buddies in my clinic, one two days before his 51st birthday and the other one on Christmas day.....I started to get so depressed.....I had to force myself to the clinic everyother day. I realized I could not continue this way and started looking into alternatives via IHD and my Davita clinic. I was nervous, as I had many complications with my chest catheter and my three surgeries and still not strong.....fistula!
I did go for my "left side".....realizing if you are right handed it is better to work with.
Wonderful advice from my dear buddy and "hero" Ginger, helped me get my room ready and determind the length of my PD cord!
I am fortunate to have a very supportive family, both related and you guys! Thank you.....your just a big bunch of angels!
