I just had a long talk with my Cat.

I hope she was listening, she looked at me the whole time.

She thinks I'm too old and slow, that I can't hunt to feed myself and Gramma.  The other day I went to lie down for a nap and found a dead bird in the middle of the bed.  I don't think she put it there as Bones Puppy was laying on the bed and when I asked him if he brought that bird in from the yard he had a pretty guiltlly look and rolled over on his back, feet held up like ready to get the handcuffs put on.

Just as I came in from the yard a bit ago Alley Cat met me in the kitchen and asked me to open the garage door so she could go eat.  The cat feeder stays in the garage so the Boys don't get into it.

I let her out and as I was passing the kitchen into the dining room I found feathers spread all over the floor, and a pretty near naked cardinal dead on the floor.

Guess who gets to clean this up?

I took the body out to the garage, interrupted her dinner, had a long take with Alley Cat.

I hope I've convinced her that Gramma and Papa get our food out of the refrigerator, not the remains of whatever kill she drags into the house.

Silly cat, she kills for sport, not for food.  Maybe I should hide her food?  Nah.

After I finish this exchange I guess I'm going to get the vacuum out.

Yes, she was bringing you a gift, as that is what they think of it. Sorry but a bit afraid this will not last.

Had to have another talk with the same cat, we have two.  Alley likes to stay out and come in just to eat and sleep.

She brought in a baby bunny, still alive, just a small tear in the skin on his/her leg.  I scolded Allely Cat hard, smacked her butt, and even grabbed her by the tail to pull her back from getting the bunny again.

So now I have a baby bunny in a box, again.

Did anyone know that a 6 inch baby bunny can just out of a 14 inch box?  I didn't.  So after my late morning exchange I go to check on the bunny and find an empty box in the kitchen.  No bunny rabbit.  So I've spent the last 30 minutes crawling around on the floor until I found what corner the little thing was hiding in.

And got a much taller box.

Most years we see rabbits in the yard, but haven't yet this year.  I'm afraid to just let it go as so young I'm not sure it can fend for itself yet.  And I certainly do not Alley Cat to get it again.  She follows me everytime I go outside, out to the barn or just anywhere in the yard.

I've no idea where she picked it up, there is sure to be a Mommy bunny out there, and maybe more little ones.  But I doubt that it would find it's way home if I just dump it outside.

Years ago our old Momma Cat brought home a dead baby bunny.  Of course I scolded her and took it.  She went out and came back with another within ten minutes.  I took it also.  Then another.  Then another.  I about spit!  Followed her out to a hole in the yard at the base of a tree, she reached in felt around and pulled out another, immediately bit the back of the neck and killed it.  Never played with it, just a swift death.

Now I got to figure out how to feed and water this little one til its big enough I can let it go safely.
