I'm a caretaker for my husband, Rock. We have been doing daily home hemodialysis for three years. I wanted to become apart of the group so we can meet with other couples that are taking charge of their own care from the comforts of home or are planning to. My husband and I met while I worked as a traveling dialysis technician. I was exposed to many different ways of sticking, machine setup, access problems, anything that takes place in an in center situation as I worked with such a barrage of patients and coworkers. I really enjoyed educating patients on how to "take charge" of their care and not just be the "body in the seat". My future husband was still going to work when he felt good, was strong physically but very unaware of what his role was as a dialysis patient, he just went with the flow of the staff members that provided treatment for him. I told him of things that he needed to know that would help his treatments be easier and allow him to have a good day off, after months of working with him and others, we began to speak outside of the clinic and I told him about doing home dialysis and having of a life, he was already familiar with the idea as he did PD for several years and loved it, this time around he would do hemo as he suffered a bad stomach infection that caused him to have the pd cath removed. we worked on his self cannualation while we waited for a spot to open at the training center. I was his three week training partner to help him be approved for H.H.D and here we are now as husband and wife.

I am a caregiver to my wonderful husband,  He is 4p and started PD October 2013. We have several living donors waiting to be tested for a transplant. Dialysis is a bridge to get us where we need to go.
He had a transplant in November 2019.
