Carpal tunnell syndrome

Hi everybody been a while since i said anything , i have carpal tunnell syndrome in both my hands i have a fistula on the left arm. I got the results last week after waiting in pain for the last 9 months can anyone here tell me if they do anything to relive the pain , my hands are also very cold the right hand more than the left they keep telling me i should have it only in the fistula arm the doc want to know can i live with the pain because to fix it one hand at a time and its a big op to get done , i just dont think i can live with it as i am up sitting on the side of the bed nearly every night 3 or 4 times . I cant seem to get through to them how bad it is any tips would really love to hear them thanks very much.

I wish I could help. I am also sitting on the side of the bed at night. I wear wrist braces at night, but that doesn't work well any more.

The pain is truly awful. One of our members has had success with laser treatments. You might want to PM Del about that.

Hi Aleta thanks sometimes i fill a rubber glove with warm water only war not boiling water tie a knot in it and sqeeze it gently for a while sometime it works and the same goes for the dialysis center i am in if you have the pain in dialysis ask a nurse for a glove filled with water its ok.

My husband had bilateral surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome about 15 years ago and after p.t., has had no problems.  He had no adverse problems with having both hands done simultaneously.

Before the surgery, he never had a good night's sleep because of the pain and discomfort.

It needs to be operated on.  Steroid injections can help temporarily but do nothing to relieve the pressure on the median nerve caused by the being compressed as they pass underneath the carpal tunnel at the wrist.  If this pressure is not relieved, nerve damage can be permanent.  It is a relatively small and easy op. performed as a day surgery.

I too, have carpal tunnel in both hands. Now, my Dr. is telling me, oh, we don't do that surgery any more. WHAT? The pain is unreal and like the rest of you, I wear the brace too.It does ease it some, but not much. So, I now put my right hand on my left chest and rub it gently and slowly and make it become warm. That helps long enough to fall asleep. Usually!!! I am going to find another Dr.

For temporary relief that may help you get a good night rest is using contrast baths.

Place you hands under hot water being careful not to burn yourself for one minute then under cold water and repeat 3-4 times.

It seems to confuse the nerves cancelling out the pain.

The permanent solution is CTS surgery or a kidney transplant.

Research is being done using green tea (catechins) for antioxidant properties to untangle amyloids found in DRA causing carpal tunnel.

I started Physical Therapy on Wednesday and I am truly amazed. I have had two relatively pain free nights! The exercises are not hard, but they DO cause temporary discomfort. The assessment revealed that I had  problems from my wrist to my shoulder. The PT will get progressively more aggressive over the next month. It should take care of the problem with no surgery.

Finally got to see the Neurologist. He only had to do the test half way thru to determine that my hand has severe CTS. He is referring me to the surgeon and then they will " git er done". I am told the surgery is small and quick. I sure hope so.

Happy New Year to you too Dublin. Looks like in the first quarter of the year, I will have CTS taken care of and my fistula put in. I am so excited!!!!
