Ready to be tested in pigs in a year. How many of us will be around when human trials begin? Still it's hope for the future. I wonder what Fresenius and Da Vita are thinking? Maybe buy the company and close it down?

I'm betting that, at least in the first models, that any implanted model will not have enough capacity to completely replace the natural kidney. Still, even if it means a reduction to weekly dialysis (or maybe even to only once every 10-14 days), I guess it would be worth it.

How many of you would have the surgery, even if it meant you still had to dialyze periodically?

Postive thoughts lead to postive engery.  I think this is a great ideal.  I'm not the one to be a gennie pig but I would be one for this artificial kidney.  It sounds really interesting and I'm hoping it really comes to life and take a lot of people off dialysis.  It will be amazing and I'm truly looking forward to it.

Dailysis patient for since 1999 and still kicking it strong.  I was called for a transplant but could not get it due to damage veins from extremely high blood pressure.  Have it under control now, on NxStage System but will receive dailysis for the rest of my life.  Does life sucks because of this.  ABOLUTELY NOT!  Life is what you make it good, bad, sick, or healthy.  Praise God I'm still functioning as a normal person just have to take extra steps.

I would have that surgery in a heart beat!  Even if I had to do HD say 2 times a month or even once a week.  Even after the 10 yrs. even to go in and have it replaced would still be wonderful. It's a blessing for all those out there who need a kidney.  Let's all pray it works! Pray everyday!   :bow;  :bow;  :bow;

I totally would.. I feel that after nearly 10 years on dialysis, I wouldn't have much to lose.. if it didn't work, I'd just go back to dialysis.. even if it wasn't quite enough, and I still needed dialysis a few times a month, it's still a great deal more freedom than I have right now

I email links to this artificial kidney periodically to the renal social worker, telling her that if they have human trials, I want to be a part of it
