My Intro!!
«
on:
March 02, 2007, 01:13:27 PM »
Hello to all, my name is Laurie, I am 27 years old. I am married and have a beautiful 6 year old daughter (well, she will be 6 on the 7th). I have been checking out this site for a couple of months and finally decided to join. Here's my story:
On March 7, 2001, I gave birth to my daughter via C-Section. I had major complications after the C-Section. My uterus would not stop contracting and my blood would not clot. I had to have an emergency hysterectomy to help stop the bleeding. I was in ICU for 3 weeks and then moved to a regular room for 3 weeks. I was not able to hold my daughter until she was about 4 weeks old. (That was the worst feeling in the world, knowing I had a daughter but not being able to hold her and do all the things first time parents do.) My kidney failure is due to the blood loss. My GFR is currently 12.7. I am currently not on dialysis, but I was for about 9 months after giving birth. I am waiting on approval from my insurance company so I can have the transplant evaluation. I am very anxious and ready to get the transplant process started.
I guess that's all for now, take care.

Hello Laurie,
Welcome to IHD. Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself. This website is intended to be your home away from home, offering advice when you need it, an occasional laugh and even more importantly an ear to listen to you when you ask questions, or just need to vent.
Unfortunately kidney disease and dialysis is the one common denominator that brings us all together.
Please enjoy the site and post often.

Hi Laurie! I'm a little older than you (32). I just finished my evaluation and I'm a go, now I just need to get my donors tested. I would call you transplant coordinator often to see where they are at. Here in Dallas I had to get on mine to get the process started. I called the insurance case manager, finance coordinator, and transplant coordinator. I think they got tired of me calling everyday so they sped up the process for me. I submitted my application back on Dec 13th.
Good luck and look forward to hearing how things are going!!

Hello Laurie,
So sorry to hear what happened to you after your c/s. I'm a long time L&D nurse and have seen this happen in rare circumstances. Thank God you were able to get through this! It must have been truly frightening for you and your family. I wish you success in the transplant process. Glad you have found this site.
Welcome, kelli
PS Happy Bday to your daughter. What a blessing..........
