This morning when I arrived at dialysis by ambulette, the lift  failed and dropped suddenly to the ground and I fell into the street still strapped into the wheelchair.  I was not seriously hurt, nothing beyond cuts and scrapes, bumps and lumps and bruises-- nothing was broken and I didn't hit my head.  So many people came to help me including the driver, who I fell on, since she was riding down behind me and a driver from another company, who took the wheelchair out from under me, so I could assess my injuries.
I'm writing about this here, to remind everyone, whether in a wheelchair, rollator or walker, to be aware of the danger of falling if the lift should drop suddenly.  Ask before you get on it, if the lift has been checked today.  I  can't tell you how many times a driver has said to me, "The lift is acting up today" and I didn't thing a thing of it.   I learned an important lesson today and I want to pass it along to all of you.

I would also be seelking legal advice at this stage., and informing OSHA. a sharp money shock maymakesure that these things are checked.  the consequences could,have been a lot worse

Oh my gosh Traveller.. this hurt my heart!!!  How many times i have watched my mom to up or down on one of those and cringed at the fear of her falling.   I am so sorry my dear friend and i wonder how it will be for you to go on it again..  Id be pretty sure it's notated somewhere that this happened, but unfortunatly, in this day and age, i would make sure i also had a copy of 'something' in my hands in writting about the accident.  I hope you wont be so sore tonight :(  Im sorry, and take care  :pray;

Oh no! I too had to watch my mom get on/off those lifts, and they did make me nervous.  Thankfully she never had any problems.  I am so sorry this happened to you, I would be nervous about ever getting on one again!  I'm glad that you are ok, and hope you never have to experience this again!

Thanks, dear friends, for your sympathy, good wishes and heart-felt advice.  I am, indeed, very sore tonight, but I'm also grateful that nothing worse happened.  Wishing you all the best...
