My name is Susan, also known as the Gramma Lady. I am 55 years old and have been on hemodialysis for one year. If it wasn't for my daughter, I'd be living under a bridge! My kidneys failed because of uncontrolled high blood pressure. (so I was stupid, we won't go there)

I've been told that I "make mountains into mole hills" but I see no purpose gained by fussing and fuming about something that can't be changed. In reading some of the posts I consider myself very fortunate, I haven't had anywhere near the problems that some people have had. But then I haven't really been doing this very long. I'm also not very good ant talking about myself or sharing difficulties. So we'll see what happens.

Welcome Susan,

Thanks for taking an interest in IHD. I think a lot of our health problems can be related to lifestyle and others are just victim of circumstance, but like you it doesn't pay to lay blame once it is done. Live for today and the future not the past.

It's great to have you here, I will be looking forward to reading your posts.

Welcome to our community!  We are sisters - I am 57, been on dialysis just over a year, my kidney failure is due to poor handling of hypertension and diabetes.  I am so grateful for this website.  It helped me through the traumatic first days of diagnosis with kidney failure and when I had my first dialysis, it was as if they were there with me.  I went with a list of things they told me on this website, which prepared me for it all.
Take advantage of all this site has to offer.  And please keep posting.  Let us know what is going on with you.   Do you have in-center dialysis?  How often and how long?

Hi and Welcome Susan! That is my mom's name ;) (If you are the type that using a graphical signature in emails I got tons for you lol  :2thumbsup;)

So you lost your kidneys due to uncontrolled blood pressure? My fiance was asking about how high blood pressure causes kidneys to fail but I didn't know how to explain it well enough. Maybe you could ;) lol

I am sorry you had to start dialysis but I am glad you are here! I have been on Hemo since mid 2005 myself but I was on Peritoneal Dialysis before this since 2001. A lot here have been on dialysis for 13 - 20 years so they can give you plenty of advice!  :welcomesign;

Hi Grammalady,

Everyone has a different way of coping with chronic and stressful situations, and if yours is to "make mountains into mole hills", who is anyone to criticize you?  You are right in feeling that what cannot be changed must be dealt with, and that is exactly what you are doing.  More of us could probably learn a lot from you; I know I could!  If I could make this mountain into a mole hill, I'd be a very happy camper.  So, well done, you!
