I went to sleep and woke up to Republicans shouting shrill messages of hate towards women.  What happened?

1.    Santorum actually saying that any sex other than for the purpose of birth is immoral.  No “pleasure intercourse” around here, is that it?
2.    The Blunt amendment had women squarely in its crosshairs.
3.    A South Carolina GOP candidate panel will not accept any candidate that has had pre-marital sex.  No one.  Goodbye Gingrich.
4.    D. Issa would not allow a women to testify before his panel on contraceptives per Universal Healthcare Insurance.  Then Rush Limbaugh called the woman who wanted to testify a “slut”, and worse.

What in the hell is going on?  Are the condom police going to raid my bedroom?  Is the GOP trying to ban the pill?

Is this one of my hallucinations?  Shall I go back into my hole and let the world reboot?  Hasn’t the U.S. Supreme Court ruled time and again on the right to privacy?  Illegal rubbers sold next to illegal firecrackers?  Dildos are still legal.  I’m going insane; where has my America gone, back into the 1950s?

Is the GOP trying to ban the pill?

Heh. Better hope not or there are going to be a lot of azure gonads in this country.

Dildos are still legal.

Better check your local and state laws. They're illegal to buy or sell in many Southern states and I know it's illegal to own more than 2 in Arizona.

I’m going insane; where has my America gone, back into the 1950s?

It'll be the 1250s before they're through. Where men were men and women were livestock (though probably not valued as highly as actual livestock).

And kristina's hit the nail on the head. Why talk about jobs when LOOK, A SQUIRREL!

I could never understand your politics, I bet you can not understand ours  (UK)  Is it the one with the most money that wins, or the one who gives out daft statements? They seem to want you to follow their rules. No sex before marriage, no abortions, your  Santorum sounds a right ahole. Where are all the decent candidates are there none.

The one with the most money will win, at least as far as the GOP nomination goes.

This is not my parents' Republican party.

Yes, the true issue at the moment is the economy, but that assumes that we don't allow Israel to begin bombing Iran and then have to go and finish the job.  There are people in the Knesset who definitely do NOT want war with Iran, yet our GOP nominees are screaming to start dropping bombs.  I don't understand that.  So it is very possible that a foreign war might become the most important issue to the American electorate by November.  Who knows?

It is a now well-known fact that Republican men do not understand how the birth control pill works, and THIS lack of fundamental knowledge has brought them enormous trouble.

I don't know where the good candidates are.  I think that in general, the American electorate is fairly centrist, so with the GOP being pulled farther right, it leaves a big hole right in the middle.  The GOP would like for you to believe that President Obama is too far left, but those on the left certainly wouldn't agree with that assessment.

It's just all so very weird, and those who have been in the political arena for decades are equally baffled by the weirdness of this GOP race.  I am really disappointed in Santorum.  At first, he seemed somewhat reasonable and at least was adamant in his faith, but now that the spotlight is on him, he is scary.  I am not particularly religious at all, but I do admire those whose moral code is dictated by their fath and who work hard to follow those teachings.  But Mr. Santorum is insulting and demeaning, and I would expect better behaviour from someone who is a devout Christian.  His faith may guide his politics but it doesn't seem to guide his tone and his demeanor, and I find that to be hypocritical in some fundamental way.

One more passing thought about Mr. Santorum that has always bothered me, and maybe it shouldn't...you know his daughter Isabella is severely handicapped by a syndrome that will almost certainly cause her life expectancy to be drastically shortened.  She has multiple health problems, and even a cold could prove to be fatal.  I understand that he values her life and that he sees in her the argument against abortion; I can appreciate that.  I guess I do not understand why he would want to take on a job as all-consuming as POTUS when his daughter's life will probably be so brief.   If it were me, I'd want to spend every waking moment with my child, never knowing when she might be taken from me.  I cannot say that parents of special needs kids shouldn't pursue their own dreams and their own lives, but this particular child is said to be quite fragile, so I don't understand Mr. Santorum's choice to run for POTUS in this regard.  He talks so much about preserving the family, and in this context, his run for office seems particularly odd.  I'm sure I'm missing something, and he certainly doesn't owe me any explanation, but I AM curious.

The Ultimate Irony -
March is National Women's History Month in the US.

Other random bits of irony.

When Romney ran against McCain in the last primaries, he was considered far to conservative to get elected.  This time, he's the one who is too liberal.

Nixon would have had to run as a Democrat if he was starting today.

Many of the tax policies and ideas Obama is using are very, very similar to ones Reagan used.

Very strange things going on in the political parties these days!

The Republican candidates have shifted so far to the right to get the nomination, it seems unlikely they can ever manage to shift far enough back to the center to actually appeal to the vast chunk of voters who actually want someone in, or at least closer to, the middle.  At the rate they are going, we really are going to end up with a three party system - eventually, someone with money will figure out that they can run in the middle, and actually manage to do it.

Welcome to the war on those of us who possess a uterus.

Fun, ain't it?

I haven't seen the Repubs bitching about men getting vasectomies, and some of the ones who are carrying on about the sanctity of marriage and pre-marital sex and blah blah blah are... well. Yeah.

Should you be admitting that on a public forum?  Who knows what measures those Dildo Police have taken to ensure they catch all the sexually delinquent women of AZ ...

Hate Women Week? No. Try century. At least.

I was defining 'misogynist' to my boys just last night. It seems a word that they would need to use sooner than later. It does not carry anywhere near the weight as 'racist' does in my opinion, and I was telling them that sexism is every bit as horrible and destructive as any other bigotry.

I could not tell them what Rush Limbaugh said because they would want me to define the words and it would just be too messy.

Is it the one with the most money that wins, or the one who gives out daft statements?
It would seem so.... However, I say keep talking, gentlemen (term used loosely). Barack Obama must wake up laughing.

A-hole is being demure. You have googled 'Santorum' right? If that does not work, try 'Santorum definition'. (Make sure you are not eating.)
