smelley man in the waiting room

I don't mean to be mean or offensive but there's this guy in our waiting room that stays there while his wife is doing dialysis, he seems like a nice guy but man he smells really bad, it's the combination of cigarettes and B.O and it smells up the whole waiting room. His wife don't smell too clean either. I want to say something so bad but holding the tung.
Anyone else no anyone in their center who smells really bad you can't stand it?

I have a different problem. I'm allergic to many perfumes....hoo boy!

A good whiff can get me coughing up a lung.

I'm not sure what to say about Mr. Stinky.  Maybe try to sit as far away from him as possible. 

Can totally relate to almost coughing up a lung when someone is wearing perfume.

Bring in a can of Lysol or other brand of air freshener and spray as you enter or as you sit down? I just do not know other than blatantly coming out and saying something. Or just ask the receptionist outloud if she can smell a foul odor in the waiting room that is making you nauseous.
 
I can not stand perfume either and if your in the mall, the darn perfume counter is right at the entrance and I have to hold my breath and run pass them. It really burns my nose and makes me dizzy.

While I was in the waiting room to see my home-hemo nurse a man went to sit down next to me and farted right in my face.  I didn't know what to say. He said sorry but REALLY?

oh gee... maybe you can take a couple of good smelling Bounce dryer sheets, roll them into a tiny ball, and indiscertly put them up each nostril. Wow... what do youdo in this situation. Not much  I guess except try to avid him.

Ask the receptionist if there is a problem with a dead animal in the wall or black mold because it is very strong and sickens you and others.

We had a woman at work that we finally talked to the supervisor about. Not a conversation I wanted to have to do, but it did get better. We were also glad when she got her gap filled in between her two front teeth. Back then you could smoke in the office and she used to walk around and talk with her cigarette stuck in there!

Thing is, I don't think people who have a bad odor can really smell themselves. If they can, they certainly don't care.

My wife and I had this discussion a while ago, what do you do when someone has a nasty odour about them.

I kinda look at it if I had a BO problem, I'd want someone to tell me so I can address it.  He maybe soooooooo used to the smell that he doesn't even notice it (including his wife).  The real issue is how do you bring it up without offending and humiliating him.

Tell the Dude he doesn't smell right.  Ask him if there is something wrong.  If a smelly person is offending you, let 'em know.  Fart on 'em if you can.  Make it a loud one.

Before you go in, rub Vick's Vapor Rub under your nose. It will mask the smell while you are sitting there. Or you can use a dot or two of scented hand sanitizer.  They sell tiny bottles at Bath and Body Works, and they are strong, they mask anything.  I have one that smells like honeysuckle...can't smell a damn thing but that when I use it.   I'm never in the waiting room long enough to smell anyone, but a few weeks ago I was at the laundromat, and an older gentleman walked in, and all I could smell was about 60 cat litter boxes on him!!! EWWWW! Thank goodness he was doing his laundry, but it was a shame he couldn't climb in with it!!!

My mother started teaching high school back in the 60's in Milwaukee, before she was married.  One of her male students stunk terribly.  All of his teachers attempted to deal with the problem.  Sending polite notes home didn't do anything - the kid just never showered.  Parent teacher conferences finally arrived, and the boy's mother came.  My mother brought up the subject yet again.  The kid's mom blew a gasket. 
"You little old spinster school teachers just have no idea what a man is supposed to smell like!  If you'd get your nose out of a book and go on a date with a man, you'd know better.  My son smells fine - he smells just like his father!"   

Sulli - you can start wearing a face mask and claim it's for germs!

We have a guy who brings his sister and waits in the lobby.  I don't know if he is "slow" or what, but he sits there and waits for her, and while he is there, he eats his lunch, and it usually winds up all over his shirt, pants, and the floor. 

Not to mention that he smells like URINE.  He has actually sat there waiting for her with "WET PANTS" on!!!!!!! 

My G/F brings in Febreeze and when he gets up off his chair to go outside or to the restroom, she runs over and sprays the hell out of the chair and the room!  Lysol was too strong, and everyone noticed it.

Best thing to do would be notify your social worker. There may be a reason why there is an odor other than smoking. Some medications will put off an odor through the skin or breath....

We had a guy who didn't shower or wash his blankets.  They were almost stiff.

We made a sign and put  it in the ONE bathroom we have in the lobby that said.  This is a Medical Facility.  Therefore please shower before coming to dialysis and wash your blankets once a month or when soiled.

Did the sign actually work? I hate when the more infiirm, older patients crap their pants on treatment. I usually end up sitting next to them and having to smell their feces the whole time. I keep fabric softener sheets in my bag for days like that. Everyone else seems oblivious to it. I don't know how. >.<

I also loathe that perfumed powder old women insist on wearing. It reeks of death to me. One old lady was in the lobby waiting for her husband today and she smelled so strongly of the powder I was beginning to suspect she was crafted from it and not an actual person at all. One strong breeze and she would have been everywhere.

Oh gawd, I hate that smell as well. It's like a crypt farted.
