i've always been a very "crafty lady" for years i made many differient things and sold them at local fairs.  i've done counted cross stitch, needle point and quilted. most recently i crochet baby blankets for a maternity home. this year i'm thinking of doing hats for the children's hospital, as they have a "hat tree" my daughter says i'm obsessed with yarn. i also read quite a bit.

Life's a bitch and then you go on dialysis!

« Reply #28 on: March 02, 2007, 05:20:36 AM »

My hobby is playing musical instruments (Guitar or Keyboard) Played in various local bands from 1965 to 2001  (one nearly successful in 1970, missed out on a record deal through musical differences within the band). It became more of a hobby after 2001 by which time I'd decided I couldn't be arsed lugging heavy speaker cabs and amp equipement to and from gigs. Nowadays I have I little bedroom studio where I write and record my own songs and once a year I play in a musical production staged by a local amateur dramatics group. Last year we did Jesus Christ Superstar and this year we are doing a production of Eight Miles High which is set in the summer of 69....BRING IT ON..... I get to play Hendrix's Voodo Chile!

For any guitar enthusiasts on the site I play a USA Fender Strat.+ and a 1979 Gibson Les Paul Standard.

We really enjoy gardening - flowers, shrubs, veggies.  I have 5 big flower beds now-one has a little pond with a fountain.  We grew potatoes, carrots and onions this year. We have apple trees, pear trees,a cherry tree.  Lots of maples!  Hubby is realy into carpentry and wood working. He has built 2 boats since he's been on dialysis.  He makes wooden trays with a lazy susan on them to put on your table, he made our bed, and a table for the sunroom as well as lots of other things.  Even though he doesn't work anymore he is still always busy. He good at fixing things around the house.  He enjoys spending time in his garage peddling around at different stuff. We can't wait to see the first flower come out in bloom.  Everything is under about 3 feet of snow now. I would much rather mow the lawns than clean up snow. I will post some pitures of the flowers when they bloom.  We also enjoy walking and doing outside things.  Maybe the ones who like gardening can post pictures of their garden when it is in bloom.

I have so many hobbies, that I can't really do justice to them all. My current primary hobbies revolve around motorcycles. I enjoy riding, customizing, painting, & light repair work. I also enjoy fishing, gardening, and playing pool. I've given up many hobbies for lack of time.

Genealogy is a hobby of mine, I really enjoy it and it's like a mystery while you're looking through your sources.  I've done my family history.  On my father side someone on his side of the family has traced them from the 1200's in England.  They eventually immigrated in the 1600's to Americas to Connecticutt.  I've had ancesters in every single US war since the Revolutionary War.  It's very interesting!

I also enjoy genealogy - haven't had as much time to devote as I used to, but it's great because you can always pick up where you left off. I found my revolutionary war ancestor and my husband's civil war ancestor - as well as tracing our families back to 1600's in PA and NY.

Forgot our main hobby - wine and beer making.  :wine; :beer1; We don't use those kits where you just add water we use real berries and fruit. We usually pick our own berries and get our fruit locally - what grows naturally here. I aso enjoy geneology.  I have most of my family tree done but have run into a few snags that I haven't really had time to work on.

Watch out for those snags in the geneology stuff. I have a friend who discovered her great- grandmother was African American.  It was a shock for her knowing how her family was so prejudiced now.  They would not speak to her because she had married an African American.  Seems the tables turned there a bit.

My mom did genealogy as well.  There were a lot of people up here just as prejudiced about being native American.  They didn't want to admit it - at least until the casinos arrived.  Then there was a mad scramble to prove they were part of a tribe so they could cash in. . . .  :P

My mom found lots of interesting family stories, like the Raven branch of the family.  The original Raven was a British soldier during the Revolutionary war.  He was wounded in a battle, nursed back to health by the family who owned the farm that was the scene of the battle.  He married the farmer's daughter and never went back to England.  Depending on which side of the family you ask, how he was conscripted into the British Army has two different versions.  One states that he was standing on his back stoop in his stocking feet and was conscripted at gunpoint and ordered aboard a navy ship headed for America.  The other side of the family claims he woke up barefoot from a sound drunk on board a ship already at sea.  The only point the two versions agree on is that he arrived without shoes!

Im DYING for this weather to break, and want to get back into flying again this year. Bad part is that the planes I have are "advanced" flying, and since ive been out of the groove for the past 2 years, I need to buy a plane thats just a little bit "slower". This plane is what will get the job done. Its a Golberg Models Decathalon

OMG Joe Paul,  that is beautiful! ! !  When I was  younger my dad was really into RC cars.  He built so many....tanks, subs, truck, cars and monster trucks.  I have a few...a 1954 Ford Coupe.  Actually I bought the body, painted it and stuck it on the frame.  LOL.....Now my dad is building a huge ass tank.  It has laser sensors and him and his buds play "war games" with them.  What I really would like is a helicopter....gas of course.  I havent used my RC cars in a long time, just dont know any1 here that is into that sorta thing.  I'd like to get back into it.

Thanks Tubes, but that isnt my plane. I ordered the same plane though, and will be picking it up this afternoon, after dialysis. Im going to post pictures when I get her home, what it looks like out of the box, and some pictures when I get her done. Cars are fun too, I have a couple of mine up for sale now, need funds to complete the plane. Here is a picture of the 2 up for sale.

Joe Paul - What are the details of your sale items?  I have been thinking about picking up a new hobby.  There is nothing like motorcycling but that can be pretty expensive at $300 each time out, if nothing goes wrong of course.  I think you have an LST there?.  I have also recently heard of mini and micro versions that interest me.  Would you happen to know anything about them?  What do you think I would need to get started?  How much needs to be invested (if you want to call it that.)?

I have also been toying around with building some plastic models.  I would like to build the Honda Repsol moto gp bike, a Ferrari or two, and a Peterbuilt for a friend of mine.  Does anyone have advice on what it takes to accomplish successful builds?  What tools do I need, paints, how much $ aside from the model is needed?  Maybe a parts list of some kind with tools and equipment would be helpful.  My only experience with models is from when I was a kid doing skill level 2 or 3 I think.  What kind of painting technique do you recommend?  Airbrush?

Okarol - Those are really great pics.  I have always had a fondness for photography but not very successful with it.  Thats awesome!

George, I answered your questions in a PM so as not to hi-jack this thread.
In the meantime, here is what my plane looks like out of the box:

I'm impressed with everyone's hobbies! I don't really have one, I read a lot, and try to collect favorite authors.
When I feel well, I cook for the guys, which they appreciate!  What else. I collect stuff. Churches, angels,
sheep, and now cows.

I bought a Team Losi Mini LST yesterday.  Very cool little truck out of the box!  It did burn up diff gears one the third run.  I was aware of this problem and so I have a metal assembly on the way.  Thinking about motor ESC combos and battery type?  I can tell this thing is going to be fun!

thanks for the help Joe Paul.

well, one of my hobbies has just reached its goal, four gallons of homemade wine, have just been bottled and doesn't taste bad either, although I'll have to drink it over a long period, due to a not so off topic reason.....

its great to hear about everyones hobbies..

Mamba 25 ESC / Hyperion 6k, and lipo battery system still to come.  Also looking to replace shock towers, stock wheels and tires, and upgrade shocks and springs.  Thinking about a Specktrum radio also?
