7 needles today i think i am done and will just go on without dialysis and take my chances................  holy shit i am so pissed :Kit n Stik;

I don't claim to have any experience with dialysis and cannulation, but even to my little brain, this just seems so out of the ordinary.  I am really shocked because I had every reason to believe that you'd have no problems.  It must be just so frustrating to have cannulation, of all things, being so fraught.  What does the clinic say?  Is everything OK with your fistula?  There must be something weird going on for you to have so much trouble.  What do you think is behind this?

I am so very sorry you are having these problems.  I remember well your pre-d days and your initiating dialysis, and I really thought you'd be fine.  I can imagine that each session is a nightmare.   :cuddle;

Very sorry you had a bad day getting started on your D.  Here's hoping the next ones go better.  Keep it up.  I checked out the photos of your grandson.  He's a cutie.  Well worth it all, I am sure.

Woodsman,

Is there anyway you can ask for the VERY BEST cannulator to stick you next time? I would definitely talk with your neph and explain how upsetting and painful this is. You may need to be checked by a vascular surgeon. And I'm telling you, a VS would be appalled at 7 sticks!

I'm hoping things will improve.  :cuddle;

I know I've asked you this before, but I want to ask again in case your answer has changed.  Other than the sticking, how are you doing on D?  Are you feeling reasonably well?  Are your labs good?  Is it just the sticking that is a problem, or are there other issues?  I know in the past you said that things were going well enough...is that still the case?

this is just horrable!!!!  Is it still like this most of the time?? or has it been going relitivaly smooth.  I fought for the tech that i knew 'knew' bo's fistula to cannulate him for a good long while as twice he was infultrated by someone else.  This worked great for a while, then he had to go on the 'rotation' with the others in center.  BUT.... by then his fistula was a bit more established and all went well from there.  Then, when he did his button holes, i had to fight for the same person to use them and at first THAT didnt happen until i told them i really had to have it like that as we were going home and needed ONE track, not everyone in the clinics...  I do hope that things will go better for you.  im so sorry, but please dont give up....

I have been to 2 V/s and they both tell me it is one of the bst fistulas they have seen, so why can't they hit it well that is a good question... I am so flustrated and angry and every muscle in my body hurts today from clenching up from all the pokes...

This is all the more reason to get you V/s involved. This kind of treatment might (probably will) damage your fistula.

Another possibility is to self-cannulate. You will have so much more control and can feel immediately if you are about to infiltrate!

When I went away for a week and Carl went back in-center, they just handed him the needles the first day (he had said that he was interested). And away he went! Except for watching me cannulate him, he had NO training!

You could do this and it may just save your fistula and your sanity!

7 sticks is outrageous! I stop them after 3. I agree that you need to insist on the best. While they are cannulating ask them to describe how it feels. (For example, mine is deeper than it feels and feels like it goes to the right but actually goes straight. It feels like it's in but it isn't until you feel and hear a pop). That way you can teach the other techs how to stick you. If you are brave enough try doing it yourself (I haven't got the nerve to do that yet) These are supposed to be trained professionals but they will keep doing the same thing until you speak up for yourself. That's what they did to me until I said enough is enough!

the techs at my center well if they can't get it twice they will have someone else try, but yes I agree, ask them if it's deep, or if it's angled, etc. You know you have a good stick because you feel a pop.

Good Lord, Woodsman, like MM, I just assumed everything was good for you cause we hadn't heard!  Im so sorry, but Aleta is right, you better get some control on this situation before they damage it.  Definately let VS get envolved!  It's ashame you can't do it yourself!  Like Sulli, you will know instantly when it is in.  I stick my DH and I know when it is in and Im not him! 

I don't do buttonholes but I use "ladder" method, and he has a beautiful thick vein from wrist to elbow!  Please try self cannulation, it could very well save your fistula!

 :grouphug;   How frustrating!  I have been there with I.V.s and that was bad enough.  I hope others who are on dialysis have practical solutions for you and can offer you sound advice.  I can only offer you my sympathies and hope that things will go better next time :pray;
